Saturday night. Fun food. Seafood Risotto. Needed half a bottle of good dry white for the Risotto so decided to sacrifice my last bottle of the Semillon I have been ageing for several years. The other bottles had not quite got to where I wanted them to be - isn't it typical that the last bottle would hit the mark. Now I can start again !

Hey Roger, we seem to have the same tastes. Morlet is special, Jody really treated us well.

I don't usually spend that amount on a white at retail, but my god it was glorious. May even go back for a second round LOL

Rav's weren't really guilty during that wave of PREMOX in the early 00's but still there is something to be said for paying a little extra to be able to return a bottle with any kind of flaw at all, or having access to the very limited Grand Cru over the Premiere Cru us peasants have access to.

I had the misfortune of a badly corked 98 Blanchot. Could not return it, Permier Cru went out of business

One of Ernie Els’s first vintages. Bought 3 bottles in 2009, first one was corked but this one is perfect!

Nicely done, good vintages, 14 Burgundy's have been a little dumb lately but they are coming around for sure!

That is a great wine and it will obviously be much better in another 20. I was fortunate to taste the full 2015 lineup with aubert.

I'm just now moving over from whiskey to wine.

Whats a good way to keep track of what wines that are new brand or new vintage that will become more prized as time goes on? I know that's open ended and subjective.

Conversely; My Wife and I stick to cab sav and our 'good bottles' consists of the usual suspects from Stag's, Groth, etc but I feel I dont have anything 'unique' or truly special in the $50-100/btl range. Maybe some Nickel & Nickel?

A good way to find wines that you can try in Napa is to follow the winemaker and not the label. For example Philippe Melka in addition to his own label is the winemaker for 29 other wine estates in Napa. If you like his wine you could find a bottle in your budget and wine style at a number of these 29 estates. Another great winemaker is Robert Foley, Mike Smith, they all consult elsewhere. A little internet research will give you more in Napa and around the world like this.
