New fan of the Day-Date 40 WG!

Folks, took me a while to realise and appreciate just how iconic and defining the Day-Date is. Always treated the DD40 as the old man’s watch. But here I am, loving it. Either I’ve become that old, or I’m maturing in my sense of taste, lol!

As many have noted, it feels solid and extremely silky comfortable on the wrist. Having worn the DSSD, the DD40 felt civilised in heft. And that blue dial! I did ponder on the olive green dial for a bit, but that rich deep blue sunburst dial just had me.

Have a great weekend, y’all!

I felt the same way about the DD. I added the DD40 this year and it’s one of my favorites in my collection. Such a classic piece with one of the best bracelets. Congrats!

Icon14 Congrats I am debating the DD40 WG in Blue and Green too

Hello,

It is so funny, I am in your same position. I thought the same thing as you on the DD. Now, as I am about to turn 50, I truly think this is for me. I have a Batman, an Explorer 1 and a DJ 41 silver. I now want only one watch and i can't decide between the DD 40 WG in blue or green.

A few questions that I am curious about:

1) Why did you select WG instead of YG?
2) How did you make the choice between the WG Blue and Green?
3) How does it feel on your wrist? Is the PM watch too heavy?
4) Will this be your only watch and your daily Beater?

Congrats and enjoy, I have a feeling I will end up buying the same one :+)

Congrats! That is one beautiful piece. I'd love to see the blue vs green dial in person as it's something I may go for sooner than later.

On the material, as much as I respected both RG and YG, in my business travels, it attracts too much unwanted attention. Plus I love the pristine look of WG.

The blue vs the green was the toughest decision I had to make. I loved the fact that the olive green was the 60th anniversary color, and also the subtle sophisticated shade of green they used. However, in certain strong lights, the green really goes into the Hulk territory which I wasn't particularly a big fan of (that's why I sold my Sub LVc). Contrary to what the ADs would tell you, both the green and the blue dials were quite readily available at several ADs, so I took advantage of that, and tried it on many times, under different lightings. Blue just sang to me more.

On the wrist, as someone who also has a DSSD, I really can't complain about the WG weight. It's quite comfortable yet assuring.

But no, this isn't my only watch, but this will be my only all-gold watch. I will be using this as my business watch when I'm not traveling, unfortunately a Rolex, especially that DJ/DD design, is just too recognisable by the wrong sort in my business travels. You'd be surprised at how well a Patek 5711 goes under the radar, except among the fellow WIS!

All the best!
