Rare Rolex

I purchased this Air King only a few days ago and there is an additional 9 where the 3 should be . I have been in touch with goldsmiths where I bought the watch and they said to take it back and Rolex will replace the dial . I would like to know if anyone has ever come across anything like this before and do I have something quite rare . I paid £4750 so maybe some cash to be made . Any thoughts or comments are welcome

No chance that originally left Rolex that way.

Did you not look at the dial while purchasing it?

Did not happen ...this watch would never have got past the control section..

If it is correct I would keep it and never get it changed back to a 3

Are you sure it's not in fact a three (9) that looks like a 9 (9)?

If true, I would replace the 9 at 9 o'clock with a 3. If you wind it backwards, it will go backwards. This may take a while, so don't give up. Having a Rolex that you read backwards, that goes backwards, would likely sell really well in Israel, since they read left to right. So I'd probably market it there.

Good luck and tell us how it goes!

I’ll swap you for my roman numeraled DJ. I didn’t notice it until I got it back home but it has 12 identical XII markers. I’m too embarrassed to take it back now.

Didn't a few bronze Tudor's leave the factory with a 6 at the 9 spot, or something

I saw an explorer that had two 9s. One where is should be and one at 6. They even put it on upside down! Two 9s with one upside down...has to be worth millions.

It’s that Jimi Hendrix song “if 6 was 9 “ only if “3 was 9” or “3 was 93”. I’d like to see a photo.

I cannot believe that such an obvious error could have possible got through all the watch build stages and quality control! It must be some kind of joke surely!

Yes, at least one of the demonstration models taken round for AD exhibitions had a two 9s. It showed up at the LV GTG a couple of years back.

Giving the OP the benefit of the doubt, I would still get it replaced. You're not holding gold mine there.
