Learning all the time
I am new to the forum as I only joined in February, although I bought my 1016 new in 1983. I have learnt such a lot in a few short weeks. I have learnt that my watch is a "vintage classic", and that it has serial and model numbers between the lugs, I have learnt not to send to Rolex for servicing as they can over polish it. I have only ever had this serviced by Rolex, the last time 3 years ago, and I always enjoyed the new look when it was returned, but did notice that the crown on the bracelet looked a bit flat. I will find a vintage specialist to service this next time. I have learnt how to remove the bracelet and putting my new found knowledge to use I looked for the numbers, and it would appear that in their thorough polishing Rolex have polished them to near invisibility, and can only be made out in good light with a magnifying glass. I wore the 1016 every day since it's purchase to my retirement 5 years ago, when I started a chimney sweeping business, and bought a cheap disposable for work, and very recently bought a pre owned turn o graph on a whim, and bought buy wife a 177200 as she felt left out! I thank you all for information, and will post photos of them all when I learn how.

Welcome Bob. You must be our only chimney sweep. I remember a sooty old guy coming to do our chimney when I was a kid in England in the 60s. Was great fun to run outside and see his brush poking out at the top of the house.

I have to agree with the op. This place is a wealth of knowledge.
Chimney sweeps are very popular with weddings. |

Welcome and thank you for reminding me: I also am grateful for all that I have learned here from the "WIS hive-mind". Other than the well-deserved jeers for my occasional bone-headed misconceptions, I've found this to be an incredibly welcoming and well-rounded site with so many very sage individuals contributing.

Welcome! Any pics of the Explorer?
I've gained so much knowledge from this forum and still learn new things all the time. |
