5990 vs. 5811

Hi guys, just wanna hear your lovely opinions between 5990 Steel Blue Dial vs. 5811 White Gold Blue Dial if I could only afford to buy one at the grey dealer.
I love both watches, admire 5990 for its complications but slightly worried about it looking chunky due to the thickness while the 5811 comes out ahead for its slimness and new dial colour, but there are no complications to tinker with. Neither would be a daily wear, will reserve it for special occasions.

Which would you choose and why? Also do correct me if I am wrong both watches cost the same now, but is there any risk of either crashing in price? Not looking for 'investment' or 'appreciation' but given the state of current affairs I prefer not to pay double 200% of retail at the grey seller and then have the watch drop to 150% of retail and lose 50k.

Thank you!

I think you answered your own question in your second paragraph. Go for the 5811!

I love the Nautilus family.

Between the two - I would probably go 5811.

I've been wearing my 5811 more than any of my others. Almost daily, forgot about scratches long ago.

It's surprisingly a wonderful balance between the weight (white gold) and size. It's larger than the 5711 yet just as slim.

Just feels great on the wrist.

I love the 5980 (first Nautilus) and I feel the 5990 wears as large if not a little larger on the wrist than the 5980.

I feel the 5811 is a go anywhere piece

5811G > 5990/1A
5990/1R > 5811G - that's if you might be exploring the R...

So I have seen and tried both of the new 5990's (steel and rose gold) and 5811. Matter of fact, tried on (again) my friend's 5811 last night - it's absolutely perfect watch, and I would take it over 5990/1A any day.

The 5811G is heavy, but in an awesome way, and just sits perfectly on the wrist. Everything about it is just amazing.

The 5990/1A is much, and I really mean much more bigger and thicker on the wrist compared to the 5811G. I do love the 5990 complications, but would take 5811G over 5990/1A...

Now... If you throw in the 5990/1R, well that's a whole different conversation... The rose gold with blue dial 5990 is something else, and I would take that over any other Nautilus, and from what I hear, it might be as hard, if not harder to get than the 5811G.

Either way, between the steel 5990 or white gold 5811, I would absolutely chose the 5811.

although 5990 and 5811 are from the same line, but they have a totally different feel when you put them on.

They dont call the 5990, the Beast, for no reason, for me, it is like the beef up version of the Nautlius line.

On the other hand, 5811 is super elegant. Also for me a 5740 also has the same feel of elegant with the size and proportion.

Depends on your usage, if I was after a sports piece then 5990, if I wanted a dress piece then 5811.

I’ll choose the 5990 anyday, I don’t own both though.

Are we not discussing 5740 since it is in the first picture? I really want one of those but just can’t bring myself to pay the premium grey. I keep dreaming that someday I will get it new with my name on the papers.

I think you can snatch it up for like 210k or so maybe max 220k that's not a terrible premium - probably it will be replaced with a different metal soon but who knows - Im not in your tax bracket but I also never really pull the trigger grey and buy from AD or don't buy at all - something about the chase and hunt :)
