Do you have a ”semi beater”?

I have two watches that I really love - A black 116500 and the steel BLRO. I love them both and use them regulary. I have started thinking about adding a semi beater. Maybe an Explorer, OP, DJ steel for example. A watch that is a little bit cheaper and more simple. A watch that can join me on activities there I normaly would leave the other watches at home, but still not G-schock activities.

Do you see the point in this or is it a bad idea?

I think it is a good idea. I am thinking of picking up either an Omega seamaster pro300 or Tudor black bay bronze for the same reasons. I travel to places that I would not want to wear a Rolex to and a Gshock wouldn't be suitable enough either.

Yes, I see your point and think you have identified 3 candidates that would also broaden your collection. Sort of depends on style Sport > Dress (Explorer > DJ), but any of the 3 would handle most any occasion.

Why not?

I’ve got a white OP 39 that I wear when I go places where I don’t want anyone knowing I’ve got a Rolex. It looks like any other generic watch.

I have a <1K Resco Instruments GMT that gets worn a lot and without concern for marks and scrapes!

I see your point. Consider an OP. I have one and it’s a relatively inexpensive compared to my other Rolex models. Due to its smaller size, it stays put on my wrist during activities.

A Timex Weekender, Timex Expedition, Seiko SRP773 Turtle, Seiko Sarb033, and my G Shock DW5600-BB are my beaters. I actually try not to scratch or bump them on anything.

Absolutely, I use my Seiko Marinemaster 300 SBDX017 for this purpose.

I guess that would be my diver as it’s my daily wearer, but will swap for Casio if I know I’m going to be at likely risk of damage

Glycine Airman DC-4 is my "semi" beater
Casio G-Shock is the actual beater, and I LOVE that watch.

I bought an extra bracelet (to keep the original one minty for my OCD) plus rubber straps to change up the looks, making my 116500 White the actual beater watch.

If I had your setup, I would just throw a sub bracelet on the pepsi when I need to to be a beater.

Yeah, my semi-beater is an Omega Deep Black, but it's indestructible as far as I can tell because I've put it through hell and it still looks new.

I never thought about it in those terms before, but yes, I do have watches that serve that purpose. Mine are a Seiko SKX007 and a Breitling Avenger. A couple of tough, gnarly bastards.

all of my watches are semi-beater - I don't wear them when doing garage/lawn work or outdoor sports, nor do I babysit them when wearing

I don’t. I use my BLRO everyday for whatever the day calls for, have been for a year now.

Same here for the exact same reasons. Although I wouldn’t consider an Omega Seamaster 300m a beater. I’m thinking more along the lines of a Hamilton Khaki or maybe a Sinn.

Rolex is great for work, social events, etc...

Not sure about rock concerts, things like that...

Tudor Pelagos LHD. Rugged enough for day to day activity, yet very comfortable

I have my SKX’s as my beaters, and my Polar Exp II is my semi-beater/daily. I also have a Seiko quartz for when I want something super light.
