My 1995 Explorer II 16570 white dial fits the bill as a "semi-beater".

Full beater will be the Sinn U50 fully tegimented I have on order.

You need to upgrade. That vintage beater doesn't have the refinements and modern automatic movement you get with the new beaters. These are hard to get with long lists at the AD but I think I can find you a good deal at a grey for only 20% over MSRP!

Good Rolex beaters are Explorer I or Oyster Perpetual. They are brushed, have no PM exposed to scuffs, not even the Cyclops to be beaten off. Had an 116000 OP and used it without concerns.

A relatively inexpensive field watch works as a good "beater," a term I'm not particularly fond of.

You might ask Jocke about his "beater."

I do or did perhaps, my 12 year old 5 digit Sub Date. It’s currently at The RSC for a full service. Given that I’m hopeful that it will be in like new condition when retuned, will have to evaluate it’s roll as a semi-beater.

I think a Tudor is calling your name. Great under the radar travel watches too.

With your other two, I'd say BB58 would be a good fit. If you're OK with a larger watch, GMT or Pelagos

I pretty much beat up all my watches but when the ocean or a lot of dirt is involved I tend to default to a Panerai or Explorer.

We can wear whatever jewellery or clothes we prefer for an outfit. Let's step away from 'Beater' and all this weird pumped up nomenclature for questions like 'do I need another pretty watch when I wear these jeans?'

Do you wear expensive dress shoes when performing dirty yard work? Probably not. Same with jewellery! It's all good.

I guess my ‘semi-beater’ would be my Breitling SuperOcean on rubber.

True beater was my SEIKO SKX009 except it’s losing about 30s per day so it’s not worn much these days. Still have a G-Shock for the really tough stuff.

Let me share an interesting mental concept with you (at least interesting to me). I find it hard to wear a cheap watch carelessly. If I wear this watch carelessly my mindset will change and when I strap on an expensive timepiece I will not be as good at subconsciously having good wrist presence to avoid damaging it. Whenever I am wearing a watch I am always careful not to bang it up and I feel if i change that mindset when wearing a cheap watch ill be more likely to damage an expensive one when i strap it on. Not sure if this makes sense.

I use my Seamaster or Tudor BBGMT for this role, but also don't mind using my Rolex for most stuff (hiking, camping, etc)

The 214270 sounds to fit your bill perfectly, or if you want to save a little on cost, something from Tudor/Omega would work well...

GShock 5600 is my true beater, just followed by SKX007/9.

I’ve toyed with this concept a little. Always had a G-shock or three for the real destructive activities. And while all of my Rolex can take a beating, I’m really only liberal with my 116600 and I love how it has aged as a result.

Warming up to the idea that the P01 and LHD could be “semi-beaters”, but also have a few Seikos for that that I regularly turn to (SKX007, SRP775).

Bremont MBII, toughest watch I’ve ever owned - hardest metal, thick crystal, flies pretty much under the radar yet still looks good, and nobody knows what it is - apart from other watch nerds. My go to traveling watch.

The Pelagos and the Doxa both serve this purpose for me. The PO I’m a bit more cautious with because it is one of my favorites.

I don’t have a designated beater... watches are meant to be worn and used. I don’t understand the point to buy expensive watches and wear inexpensive one most of the time because one is worried about damaging their expensive watches.

My daily beater has become an 116500. Watches are meant to be worn, and I believe the small scratches add to the character of the watch.

When people purchased a Rolex 50 years ago most were worn with the intention for the intentions and complications of the watch: diving, racing, etc. Now if we are talking a grand complication, that is another story.

Just my 2 cents.

Flame away; but I think the increasing functionality of the Apple Watch (HR monitor, activity and sleep tracking, integration w/ iPhone, etc) will eventually lead it to "daily beater" status. It's definitely not rugged; but it obsoletes itself every 2 years or so encouraging replacement (so you don't have to coddle it like you're passing it down to your kids or for resale). The wearable tech and health monitoring is only getting better - it may find its way to you wrist eventually as well... That being said; I'm still buying my first Rolex today!
