Sistem 51, all around winner for me. One of the most important watches of the last decade without question.

Completely agree. I got introduced to it through the partnership with Hodinkee. I have the Sistem 51, blue edition also. Only one I am missing the Sistem 51 vintage 84.

I went out of my way to get one when first released, convincing a friend to pick up in Switzerland at the time. I think I have 6 in total, including the Hodinkee three, and they are the go to watch for summer weekends, casual evenings, times when I don’t want to worry but want to wear a watch, travel in dangerous places such as London (I joke, but only a little) etc.

A little thick, but with the weight (almost nothing) and the lack of lucks they wear pretty well.

I have a problem with an all-plastic watch designed to be disposable. Shouldn't we be past that?

I dig your Sistem51.

I bought one 2 years ago, a different model, and it fell apart inside 3 months with only light use. Terrible quality, and since it's disposable, I threw it in the trash. Mine might have been an outlier. For the OP's sake, I hope it was.

No, happened to me too (one of the first gen). I was properly disgusted with it to be honest.

Just to offer some balance I have 6 of them, oldest one from 2013 and others 4 and 5 years old. In my sample size of 6 I have had no such issues.

I'm truly glad to hear you've had a good experience with them. I would worry if they were all as bad as mine.

Unfortunately I got mine from a gray, so there was no warranty to use.

There’ll always be lemons, less problematic or distressing if those are $150 lemons versus $15,000 lemons but they exist across all price points.

From my experience, yours was not an outlier. I had two Sistem51 Chics which failed after a few weeks, and were replaced on warranty. The third one barely lasted out the two year warranty, and with no abuse. I have a "white" which looks cool, but sitting for about a year killed it. No amount of shaking, etc. will get it going. I have a "blue" that still runs, but my 8 year old Seiko which cost less is flawless, as good as my Rolex.

My first one stopped working after a few months. I got it replaced under warranty but just don’t find myself wearing it. I’ll stick w quartz swatch if I want to wear a swatch.
