Sell one, keep one. Which one?

Morning guys and gals of TRF,

I own a 2014 BLNR (pre-owned) and a 2017 Submariner (bought new). I’m considering either trading or selling one of the two to fund an engagement ring. I love both of these watches, but can’t necessarily justify owning two of them anymore. I’m torn between which one I should consider moving.

Godfather rules notwithstanding, strategically (assuming you’ll be buying it back in the future) I’d probably sell the Submariner now and then plan to buy the current model a few years or more down the road.

Engagement rings are terrible investments. Get a lab made diamond and keep the Rolexes

Which one would you want to wear to your wedding? Keep that one.

Keep the BLNR and sell the Sub.

Everyone loves the Sub, I've never owned one... it feels rather "generic" in the Rolex lineup for me and for that reason I'd move it and keep the special one.

If you have regrets selling the BLNR, that regret is going to cost a lot to unregret yourself.
I would sell the Submariner. The BLNR offers just a touch of color that keeps things interesting and the pcls will look great on your wedding day.
Then when you travel on your honeymoon, the BLNR can dive and track the timezones you need. It's a win win.

And I say all this as a huge Submariner fan.

Which one does your future bride like better? After all, you are giving up something you like to get something that she likes.

Careful with selling one of the watches you love on the grounds you can't justify having both. If you can comfortably afford to keep the watch and get your engagement ring, do not sell the piece. Or you will regret it, big time.

She’s always been a fan of the GMT!

Had a sub first before my BLNR. GMT is much more versatile and will look better in a suit for your wedding.

Keep both watches and find a engagement ring that works. I do not see it as an either/or I see it as two collectable watches that have a significant value beyond the ring. Might be a 50/50 chance that the watches hang around longer than the wife. It has been known to happen.

Keep the GMT. Subs are much easier to buy at or near retail price.

Depends on which one gets the most wrist time - for me I'd keep the GMT. Classic piece and love the touch of blue - also much more difficult to obtain than a Submariner.

ask your fiancée to join TRF for two weeks and convince her to take the sub or blnr and a cheaper ring, which anyway you will lose like 50%+ the moment you walk out the jewelry store
