GMT Master Bezel Insert Needs Replacing

Hello Everyone,

Hope someone can help with this.

I own a 1988 GMT Master which I've had since new. My red and blue bezel insert is showing signs of wear and I was wondering if anybody can suggest the best place to get a replacement.

Roy,
I think most people here will tell you not to replace it. It adds character, assuming it's not physically falling apart. Your call of course. I'd keep it as is.

You could try via a Rolex AD, classifieds on TRF, Chrono24 accessories, vintage watch dealers ...

None of the above, aging of aluminum bezel looks good 99% of the times, let it be

Your insert is actually just getting more valuable...I would keep it as is.

Rolex themselves cost around £40 exchange,

As you see, there are some who see value in old and degraded parts.

There are others who want their watches looking new and well maintained.

If your watch has gone a while between cleaning and servicing, find a shop with a parts account, or use a Rolex service center, and have it serviced and the insert replaced. It would likely be the cheapest route.

If you just need an insert, find a Dealer who can order one, it is by far the cheapest route.

Buying on the open market and sellers think that inserts are made of solid gold and price accordingly. You could probably get your watch serviced and a new insert cheaper than some scalpers are selling inserts alone for.

Many thanks to you all for the replies. I wanted to give be it a new lease of life and get that new look I got over 30 years ago. But now you've educated me, I can see you're right and I've changed my mind.

I understand what you are saying. A nice shiny one is much nicer. I had mine changed after about 10 years at the Geneva RSC. It was cheap enough that I don’t remember how much.
