Icon20 The "Instead Thread"

Was considering a Rolex Sub or GMT to compliment my Z-Blue. A visit to a local AD with money to spend revealed a case full of Datejusts and literally nothing else. I have owned at one time or another, just about every Rolex SS sport model made, being very brand loyal.

A quick glance at the Breitling case and I saw this beauty. I have never liked Breitling as the bezel and the cluttered dials never did it for me. This one, however, checked all the boxes. I left with it on my wrist and haven't looked back. So, another brand got my money and I hung on to several thousand dollars along with a beautiful new piece.

Just wondering how many out there have recently diverted what otherwise would have been Rolex dollars for another brand during/since this Rolex sport scarcity BS?

Congrats on the B-watch!

As for me, new custom Sonor SQ2 drum kit and McIntosh monoblock home amps. There's far more to life than watches.... so enjoy your time

I got a good offer on a Superocean Heritage Chrono from an AD who was turning over their display stock. It has a black dial and green bezel. The rubber bracelet even has an adjustable deployment clasp not a million miles dissimilar to a Glidelock. I also got a mesh bracelet later and swap between them.

This was my "instead of a 16610LV or 116610LV" purchase. Why pay all that money when I could have this little beauty? And have it now. I still love it and wear it today. But the Kermit/Hulk jones came back. So now I own the Birthing and a Hulk. And I couldn't be happier.

Congratulations on your Superocean Heritage. A great watch which I'm sure you'll get a lot of faithful service and enjoyment from.

Congrats! My one and only is that same Superocean Heritage date (not chrono). White dial, black bezel on mesh bracelet. It's been a great watch and beat over the Rolex I was pinning it up against when purchased back in 2015.

Waiting for my SubC though!

Been looking at chronographs for a while, no chance of a Daytona so looking to imminently pull the trigger on a Speedmaster MkII instead

Someone should send Rolex this thread. Given their supply shenanigans, this was bound to happen. This probably happens across the world, every day.

I have few Breitlings myself so big congrats. Nothing wrong with venturing out a bit, but Rolex is a must have in any collection. Enjoy in a good health!

I was in the same boat like you a few months back which was hoping for the new GMT II "Pepsi" but told by the AD it'll take 2-3 yrs before I can get one. So I went with the new Omega Speedmaster 57. I'll probably still get one but now I'll buy other brands that's available on the market.

Missed out on the white dial ceramic Daytona that was coming to me (long story) so got a second bite at the Rolex Apple and got the blue SkyD.

Happy but could have been ecstatic

How are you liking the 57? I am considering it as a possible if I can’t get the MkII dial combo I want.

Well, I went with a Monaco in the absence of responsiveness from my AD. Definitely a famous track watch tied to Steve McQueen and Le Mans (the movie).

I have a explorer ii 42mm that I love but i do not care about rolex anymore! My last 2 purchases are these 2 soh ii and my next one will also be a breitling! Congratulations on your soh!Perfect choice !!! Imho breitling under the leadership of Georges Kern is the most interesting company at the moment and the one with the greatest prospects for the future !!

Yes I did. Love my SDC but not remotely interested in dealing with the BS that I'd have to go through to get anything new (that I'd want) from Rolex. Bought a BNIB 8500 Omega PO instead, on the OEM dive strap. Here's a pic of it on the OEM bracelet that I bought for it too
