G shock?

I see comments regularly from on here loving on your G Shock as a “beater watch” (travel/explore/hiking/beach watch)

I think my Rolex can handle anything- but if a guy was going to consider buying a G Shock is there anything I should know? Which model? Features?

Some awful reviews online, but I figure all the Rolex lovers in here would have a realistic “take” for me.

The basic classic square G-Shock with run you about $50. It's as durable and accurate as they get. Battery powered that should last 5 years and easily replaceable. The $50 G is as tough and durable as a$5000 G-Shock.

I myself have two. The BW5600 with solar, bluetooth, wireless radio etc.. it has the newest version of the combu Bracelet. I love it. I spent about $200.

I bought another one a couple of weeks ago in white. It doesn't have the bells and whistles which I kind of regret, but It was $80. I used some of my AMEX points to pay for it.

For style, accuracy and durability you really can't go wrong with a Casio G-Shock.

I have a GA-100SD...You can get one now for $100. It's insanely big for my small wrist, but it kind of adds to the charm for me. It's been with me all over the world. The dual world time function is a fantastic function and works like a charm if you need gmt. Switching between time zones is accomplished by holding down two buttons for 1 second.

I forgot to add the picture. I also appreciate the digital and analog combination.

One thing for sure is to make sure you spend some time actually trying them on. Most of the modern G-Shocks are ridiculously ginormous. My wife bought me a Mudmaster on Amazon and it looked like a wall clock on my wrist. She picked it based on features but it was somewhere around 54mm. One look and we were both like “um..... no!”

We sent it back and after some research and shopping around, I found the AWG-M100. Perfect with some Jays and Kays metal end links and a Zulu. I actually enjoy wearing it.

Love mine. 2nd time zone is great when traveling and I use the timer function a ton with my kids sports.

I have two. Yes, Rolex can take a beating but for those times when I know my wrist is gonna take a beating, I choose my Mudmaster. But this is my favorite when I’m wearing something nicer (not Rolex) during the day and I just want to swap out when I get home - GW-5000J. Smaller than mudmaster and many other g shocks and super comfortable. Paid extra for the JDM version for the upgrades. This morning going for $250 on Amazon.

My recent fav has been the GWR-B1000

one-piece carbon case, carbon fiber bezel, sapphire crystal, bluetooth connected via smart phone for configuration.

Decide if you want twin/ triple sensor. I use mine hiking and biking so the compass is a nice feature for me.

Had a few G Shocks over the years currently have one have owned it twice, it does everything I need and then some - model GW-M5610, great original G Shock at a nice size to.

I have owned a few much larger models over the past few years, but realised they were just to big for my girly wrists eg GG1000-1A5 & GW-9400-1ER.

I have a Rangeman and that thing looks huge! Strap it on and it’s just as comfortable as my DJ41 or GMT.

I have a GW-5000 and would highly recommend it. I've had cheaper G's in the past, but I think the light weight of them made me never take them very seriously, and never got any wrist time. I would just wear an SKX.

But the GW-5000 with the metal case, I've heard some people complain about the weight. For me, it feels like a real watch, not a toy. The resin bumpers and recessed crystal make me feel like it can take anything without a second thought, unlike the SKX where I would still worry about scratches.

The new "Casioak" GA-2100 definitely caught my eye, but again, I wonder if I'd actually wear it.

Rangeman GW-9400. It’s all business and has everything you would ever need. Altimeter, barometer, compass, alarms, time zone, solar powered, atomic syncing, stop watch, 200mm water resistance etc... You get a lot for $300. Tough as nails too.

I consider by Casio (an Illuminator, not a G-Shock) an indespensible partner to my Tudor Submariner. The Tudor can take everying the G-Shock can.....I don't question that. To me, it is about comfort. The Casio is more comfortable doing yardwork or exercise with the added benefit of a chronograph. I had a G-Shock years ago. Now, I have an Illuminator that greatly resemebles the vintage G-Shock.
