Daytona Ceramic or Non-ceramic Daytona ?

I was just wondering the value in the long term between the new Daytona ceramic bezel and the previous non-ceramic model . I feel like the price is going up for the SS Daytona non ceramic since it will not be available anymore.

Also looking at the new Daytona Ceramic, I wonder if it is not too sporty with the new black bezel, less appropriate for every occasion.

I am looking to buy one or the other but it is difficult to decide

What you guys think ?

Thanks

Get a Zenith El Primero. That was my choice. Iconic.

I can understand your choice but the hardware (clasp and bracelet) are weak for my taste on the Zenith.
The improvement on the quality of their clasp and oyster is very considerable since the Rolex movement.

Neither one is a bad choice. If you have access to the C, I'd grab it, otherwise the 116520 is not a bad thing! It's a win-win, ya can't lose!

The value of Rolex watches will go up slowly over time. I do not see either of these models appreciating any faster than the other. It is possible that the zenith daytona, in good conditon, may appreciate faster than both models you are considering. We see the vintage Rolex market is booming and I expect the more uncommon and sought after 5 digit references will be the next thing.

If you can get the C, get it. My favorite Daytona that I've owned.

The ceramic is not hard to get if you are willing to pay the premium for it ;-(

No, I meant an actual Zenith El Primero, not the Rolex that used the Zenith movement. Daytona doesn't move me, and the hype over the new bezel is frankly laughable.

As an aside, clasps and bracelets are irrelevant in my opinion, it's the watch that counts. The watch is "the hardware".

Either is a good choice! Which do you like better....the ceramic just pops! Once prices started rising on the 116520 I decided it was a no brainer to just go with the 116500 and I was fortunate to get one in a relatively short amount of time.

Newer is usually better in this day and age, keeping in mind that the current and previous models are regular production series.

I prefer the previous model from an aesthetics point of view. I saw the new ceramic and am not a fan. Having said this, I would not pay the current asking price for the previous model, nor do I want the current model.

Do whatever you are comfortable with but please make sure you put one on your wrist before buying.

Like 99% of the worlds population I fell for the ceramic Daytona after seeing pics plastered all over the net.

I actually saw one in the flesh a few weeks ago and was underwhelmed. The SS looked classier and better.

We all have different tastes but just see the things in the flesh before jumping.

Regards

Mick

Don't know. Ceramic looks nice, new and refreshing, but I prefer the previous bezel configuration.

Unless you are sticking it in a safe for 10-20 years, i would buy the one you like better viscerally.

I have owned several Daytona's over the last 20 years and they are a fine watch. If I was to be in the market today I would go with the Daytona-C. I initially thought that I preferred the white dial but the picture here on TRF may have changed my mind to the black dial.

Agree that the forum pics of the black dial have made many change their opinion about preferring the white ... but in person, for me the white still wins.

I think it totally depends on how you buy it. You can't get the non-ceramic in SS new, unless you find some NOS and I'm sure it will cost a premium. If you had to buy a new C at inflated MSRP+ then no, that's not a good long-term purchase.

So, apples to apples, a nice used SS or a nice used C, the latter will cost more and long-term probably only a smidgen more valuable, if at all.

But you can't buy a watch as an investment, unless you get a real classic vintage model. And even then you really need to buy whatever it is you like, wear it and enjoy it. Otherwise, as a pure investment vehicle, you'd do better with stocks and bonds.
