Omega Speedmaster Professional owners/fans, what don't you like?

There are a million threads about who doesn't like Speedmasters. This is a question for those that love them... what little flaws or issues do you overlook because you love the watch?

My only niggle is the crown is a little too small which makes it somewhat difficult to wind. Other than that, it’s awesome.

Poor adjustment and clasp. Had mine for just a single year after wanting one for a very long time. But I still love it and will probably try again with this new model and the adjustable clasp.

I have no complaints except the apparent randomness in the tightness of the wounding.....some of my Speedmasters wind quite easily/smoothly and some of them literally break skin after I give it a full wind....and I have pretty rough hands....some just stay super tight for winding ever after servicing.

This was my first thought, too. If you can, you want to actually wind the movement of the individual watch you're going to buy before you finalize. If you can't do this, then you want to request that the seller wind the watch and report to you on the effort required to twist the crown. Some are pleasantly smooth and easy, while others are curiously stiff and, as a result, unpleasant. If you get one of the latter, your ownership experience will be significantly diminished. I don't understand why there should be such a difference, and I'm not sure I have ever heard of a standard fix for the excessively stiff ones. It's frustrating.

I don’t have a Speedmaster Professional model. Instead I have a Speedmaster co-axial 44.25mm Moonwatch. The reason(s) I eschewed the Pro for the co-axial is the lack of a date window. At the time I also preferred automatic over manual wind, but I’ve softened on that. 42mm is probably the ideal size for me.

I have been around a long time, and I cant ever remember reading any threads about hating the speedmaster. Yes, some dislike certain things, but that goes for any watch.

I am still searching for the perfect watch, and I think the search will continue until I die.

I wish they retained the applied omega logo and stepped dial.

It kind of does...mine will stop the second hand with slight anticlockwise pressure on the crown - even reverse it a little with more pressure. I think this is called a 'poor mans hack'. IIRC its detailed in the manual..

I'm still in the honeymoon phase of my first Speedy. I think it's a remarkable value for what's essentially a living breathing vintage watch.
I have had some teething problems getting the bracelet to fit. That's a personal thing of course but a lot of people mention it. An adjustable clasp or at least more micro adjustment points would be nice.

You might have a look at this thread, including an update I posted yesterday detailing my purchase and installation of the clasp with micro-adjustment: http://https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=584973

Thanks for that thread, I did read it yesterday before going to the Omega Boutique last night. The watchmaker there resized my bracelet, and so far I think it's good now. I actually showed him that thread and he was familiar with the swap. If my current fit doesn't work out we will go that route.

The bracelet is garbage IMO, but I wear it on leather so not a big deal. Also wish it hacked but, hey, neither does my PP 5167.

I almost went with FOIS because of the lack of crown guard. At the end Hesalite won

I wish the omega logo was applied and I wish the bracelet was more in keeping with the original vintage look. I wear mine on leather, they look good on anything and the hesalite is amazing!

I agree with the crown is small and sets low so winding seems a bit difficult.

Thanks for all the feedback. Interesting comment on the "garbage" bracelet. I hadn't heard that one. I'll pay attention to the winding action.

Does having the sweep seconds hand on a subdial bug anyone?

It can be hard to wind.

The small crown and crown guard can make it difficult to wind. The chrono second hand is the same color white as the hour and minute hands and every so often it can be a little confusing to read the time. The case edge has some nooks and crannies that can collect dust and smudges. These are just small character flaws on an otherwise beautiful watch!

That’s pretty standard on all three register chronos, certainly not unique to the Speedmaster.

I love everything about it (yes, even the bracelet) except for the winding experience. Mine is so hard to wind that it damages my skin. I’m not exaggerating. But it’s like playing the guitar - you just persevere through the blood because you love it.

I am not a fan of the endlinks on the bracelet. They don't taper downward like on oyster bracelets. Instead they stick out straight effectively making the lug to lug like 52mm.

I don’t like how the hesalite versions movement isn’t as detailed as the display caseback. Also, the devlin brake is off putting. I know that people say it’s actually better than the metal brake, but I don’t think it’s reflective of pricing.
