Looks kosher to me, But you can never be too careful
No box and no papers sound fishy to me, Especially being only a 1 year old watch.

Well, for starters....he's certainly got the model number all wrong. He's got an extra 1 in front of the standard 16610.

Secondly, what you see is not what you get. The watch looks genuine enough from the pics, but I've never bought off e-bay and NEVER will, so maybe wait for some other members to come along and give you some advice.

Bezel pearl looks right, and I don't readily see the laser etched coronet. Most fakes can be seen easily. This may be legit BUT its hard to tell from photos.

If the seller is legit, he won't mind going / meeting up to an AD for verification.

He also does not mention the s/n series...

The edges of the hologram sticker looks jagged...

Hey JJ I wasn't looking to buy, just surfing.

I just thought it might be worthwhile to post the link. I believe we should endeavour to keep abreast of the 'Replicators' to assist some of our members who are thinking of buying a pre-owned Rollie. I am always on a learing curve myself with being able to spot fakes. There are some dudes here who are very good at that. One day someone is going to show me a Rolex they might want to buy and ask me if it's Kosher. I would want to give them a reasonable estimation and if I wasn't 100% sure tell them to go to a watchmaker so he can take off the caseback and examine the movement.

I agree eBay can be full of pitfalls. As you point out it may not be a WYSIWYG auction!

One has to trust the seller above all. I have never heard of these people AUSKEY TRADING, who are an Australian outlet, maybe someone else has.

Auskey are primarily into coins. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that the nice folk at Auskey really do think this is genuine, but the "private importer" didn't think to "privately import" the box and papers. Not a chance. This is going to be, at best, a good street job and maybe a II/III counterfeit, but Auskey wouldn't know a genuine Rolex for all the tea in China. Of course you woudn't want to be the second guy fooled by this passable fake.

I give you some advice. Go to places maybe a pawnshop that specializes in selling Rolex and these places have Sub and Datejusts like Snickers Candy Bars. You need to do some research and check them out before shelving big bucks on some angled pics from that link.

Yes but at the same time.... not everyone that buys a Rolex is an enthusiast and therefore may not hold any value on what the box may mean in a future sale of the item. Prior to ebay I never kept the box to anything I bought.. I now do as I know that an item for sale is much more valuable if it comes with everything you got from the original sale.

Good point, Amanda. The only thing that makes me worry about the box and papers is that the person who wore it through customs didn't think to bring the box and papers, or send it after himself by post. If you are a "private importer" you're going to keep the box. The discordance between description behaviour is what made me twitch, rather than just the innocent act of box jettisoning, of which I am an avid practitioner!

I'm not sure about the exchange rate.

But if the Australian currency is close to the US $ or the Euro, then I would say this is cheap..actually to cheap to be true...who would sell a one year old Sub Date for less then 10% of the original price?

I would not touch this one...I say, either stolen or fake.

over here if i'm to purchase a pre-owned rolex. we will normally meet at RSC to verify for the authenticity of the watch. the verification fee is about SGD$75. since i'm paying a bomb for the watch, i don't mind paying an additional of 75. this would at least peace my mind for the purchase.

It's currently in the owe-zone, which is the price you can pay and if it's a Swiss fake, it won't owe you too much when you flip it. Too much higher, and you get into the bozone i.e. the price a clown will pay for a fake while thinking it's genuine. The distinction is a fine one.

From what I can see of the hologram it too looks fake. Interesting how they attempted to cover it with the bracelet as much as possible.

I don't want to discourage any learned horological discourse. Far from it. This is, after all, a watch forum. And there may be merit in speculating on the fine detail in the pictures, if they are pictures of the watch you'll get. I just can't get past the "private importer" who managed to "import" this nice watch.

I can't stop myself smiling with the image of him as he gets home, pats his trousers and says "Oh drat! What sort of a private importer am I? I seem to have forgotten the box and papers for this Swiss watch. What a duffer I am! I suppose it's off to eBay for me, and not the exclusive private importers'...place where private importers go to sell their...private imports..."

I reckon the pictures are just for fun; if you can see through the tears of laughter after reading the description and you still want pictures, then they are your reward!
