Daytona:Size of PM versus SS

This picture shows that the precious metal (white gold, rose gold and platinum) Daytona are around 1mm bigger than the stainless steel 116520:

So that's why precious metal Daytonas cost so much more than the stainless models!

I wish my eyesight was good enough to discern a 1mm difference based on that.

It is true that the PM models have slightly thicker lugs and the crown guards are also larger. Any side by side pictures will show this difference. However, both models are 40mm.

Both models are 'stated by Rolex' as 40mm.

In fact, the SS is 38.66mm the PM are 39.66mm.

If you look at the right hand side of the watch leading to the crown guards, you must surely notice there is more metal and the right hand lugs are also wider and not tapered like the SS Daytona??

This is FACT not my opinion!

Not sure why people are responding with certainty that they are exact same dimensions. They're not.

They are definitely not the same size despite rolex calling both 40mm.

Well to be fair you posted two product pics. A real side by side pic would make it easier to see.

It's quite clear from the picture the right hand side lugs are wider on the PM

Amazing, never cease to learn. Why would they make them 1mm different?
I am sure they have their reasons but imagine if its due to the die casting having been made to an incorrect spec (assuming that's how they are made as heck if I know)? That would be a riot.
Or as likely how made, machine that defines block for PM is off a mm.

If you have a search on here ,This was clearly documented when the Platinum was launched two yrs ago ,I think the 116506 is even bigger than the 18k variants ,Why , because its Rolex and they do weird things like this

The point is sharing the knowledge that there are subtle case nuisances between the SS Daytona and the precious metal versions

Interesting to Daytona aficionados and Rolex forum members in general

If you don't like the info or content of a post and have nothing positive to add just move on
