Hi everyone, I'm about to buy the Rolex Sea Dweller 16600 from 1991, full set, everything look great.
I'm not sure if the case is unpolished, can you help about that ?
Thank you

Well given the damage to the top right lug I would say no, it has not been polished.

What difference would it make if the case has been polished,as long as it was done correctly at normal service time.Rolex watches are designed to be polished at normal routine RSC service thats around 50 years of wearing before most would even notice with today's mainly pampered watches. With the few dings on the watch in picture it looks unpolished, but if no service history get it serviced and polished by a RSC.

I would never say "definitely," especially from those pics. You should get better quality pictures if this concerns you. Fair to say from those pics that it doesn't look *over*-polished.

And this.

The quality of the pics posted are pretty bad. I, personally, would not buy a watch based off of these photos. However, given the dings visibleit does not appear polished or overpolished anyway. But as stated above, if it was done correctly no big deal.

The pictures are terrible. Why would a seller give you such bad photos if he is proud of the watch? I would steer clear for that reason.

It does not appear to be polished, but who knows, it may have been polished already and then dinged. The fact that dings are visible does not mean that it has not been polished.

...except RSC doesn't do laser welding and would have to remove a noticeable amount of material to make those dings disappear. I wouldn't polish it at all, personally. But, I agree it likely needs a movement service.

Those dings look like natural wear for a watch that age. I would not feel any need to remove them. In a way the watch is better with these dings rather than with an artificial repair/polish.

Hard to tell from those pictures. Can the seller provide you with macro shots where by zooming in one can see if there is even the mildest distortion in the lines of the case?

The pictures are not conclusive also its a nice watch. I would ask for better pictures also the bezel doesn’t look to bad the minor dings with the age of watch are normal. I wouldn’t purchase until I'm comfortable with my decision. Take your time , you’re not sure ,don’t rush. Time is always on the buyers side .

Thank you for your advice, I saw the watch in real and the SD is in very good condition, but its hard for me to tell if its unpolished.
Sorry for the bad picture, it's my fault, there is another one, I hope that's better.
Thank you everybody

It's still hard to tell for sure but at least the lug holes aren't cratered. Same goes for the HEV pocket. That's usually a good sign. Tops of the lugs appear to have the original brushing.

Better photos would help.

Almost impossible to tell. But it looks like a very nice case, polished or not.

The Case Bevels look quite good to me from what I can see from the photos. I also agree with some of the other posts, wear it as is. It's a Nice Watch with a little "Character".

Sorry for the poor quality of the watch, but I don't know how to upload on the discussion with high quality.
But the watch is in very very good condition, full set from 1991 with everything including the sea dweller tool kit for 8'000 euros.
Should I putt the trigger, what I have to look carefully for this watch ?
Thank you to everyone for helping me, because it's the first time that I want to buy a vintage Rolex

Appears to still have decent chamfers, so that is good.
