If you could never sell it, would you want a 5711/1A or 5712/1A?

Let's see where things stand between these two powerhouses in 2017! This poll is for the blue dial version of each watch only.

Please indicate in your reply if you have seen both, neither or just one of the two in person. This is very important as I'm curious to see if the votes correlate to opinions based on photos versus in the metal.

Also, remember, part of the question is that you could never sell (or trade) the watch, so take re-sale/grey market pricing out of the equation.

Cheers!

Seen both and picked 5712. Still get the benefit of the blue and just more interesting.

it's a really tough decision, but i think i'll go for 5712 since it's a bit more unique in design such as micro rotor, power reserve and etc... however, some people might think the dial is a bit too busy, but either one is okay.

5711. I like watches that don't require a lot of setting, or that whatever I'm setting is at least useful, so the moon phase puts me off the 5712.

Had them both, actually had the 5711 blue and white and the 5712 blue dial and the 5712R. Sold them all, nice watches but they're ubiquitous and I lived the seventies and it's 2017!

Well I was a kid in the 70's, so I think I love 70's watches as it brings me back to my childhood, probably why I considered getting the MB&F HM5, which is clearly drawn from 70's sports cars.

To the OP, I have both, and while I am really starting to love the 5711, I still prefer the 5712, but then all my other watches are time and date only, so it's my only watch with complications, so my favorite for now and probably for a long time... I did sell my first one for a real estate investment, and I missed it every day until I got one back, I had the choice between it and the AP ceramic diver, preferred the PP but knew the AP would be harder to get back new unworn

5712a for sure, the moonphase is a romatic complication. Makes you look back in time and appreciate watchmaking.

The only 5711 i'll consider is the Platinum 40th or a 5711a tiffany dial

i'm actually in that situation...and have decided to seek/wait for the 5711. i thought maybe it'd be too much of an overlap with my AP jumbo, and the 5712's dial/complications are arguable more interesting to view, but i find my tastes going more toward those models that KISS.

Not a fan of the 5712. I like the simplicity of the 5711.

5711. I think it's the more classic of the two and will maintain that status forever.

5712 because of the micro rotor, it's engineering and history is fascinating.

I assume most buyers will have more than one watch, the 5712 is very unique and stands out in anyone's collection.

This is the very dilemma that I now find myself in.
I what to mark a very special birthday, with a watch that I would never sell and possibly the last watch that I would get.
A few years ago, I had a 5711A, but eventually sold it, a decision which I now regret.
I have only ever seen one 5712A and was really surprise on how much I liked it, especially afters years of thinking that it was not a watch for me.
However, I do like the complications, but especially the 240 movement.
I have not been able to participate in the poll, as I can't give an answer!
