Hey guys, after hearing all the great things about a black monster i decided to get one. So far it seems like a great timepiece. Heres a pic of the seiko and lume shot of my LV as well. For the Black Monster owners out there, How long does your Lume last? I think my watch was produced a long time ago because the lume dies out rather quickly. Serial number says made in 96' What do you guys think?

Congrats, Slim!!! An excellent watch - I am wearing mine all this week to work. The lume is super luminova, which tends to be VERY BRIGHT when activated by a light source for a period of time, and then decline. But it never goes away completely - just wanes to a certain level and stays. But boy, when it is first activated, its like a SEARCHLIGHT!!!

Here' mine on a rubber strap. You can see that the design and style of the watch has not changed much, if yours is a 1996 vintage:

Slim and Prince,

I looked at these Seikos a couple of weeks ago at the Navy Exchange. One with a rubber strap and one with a bracelet. Thought about getting one, then I saw a Movado that caught my eye. And like you Slim, reading all the posts about it on this forum made me take a closer look. Still might get one.

I have a Seiko Quartz Dive watch from 1979, and it still runs!

I have a Seiko SKX007 divers 200m on rubber strap and it is a tank. The lume on these are like torches.

Looks nice. They are very popular. If it was made in '96, I'm not surprised the lume doesn't last long. :)

My newer SL watches glow all night (though weaker by morning).

Did you buy you watch new or used?

If someone buys a "black monster" off amazon, is it going to be ten years old?

Are they still produced?

I was contemplating getting one to use in certain beater situations (as well as diving) where I definitely want a watch, but don't want to screw up my 1675 now that it has been restored.

To answer your question, they have both used and new black monster on amazon.

They are still being produced.

I bought it New from a local store. Had all the stickers on bracelet and watch still. I didn't think it was a vintage piece since the store had one. When i got one home i looked up the serial number and it said 96'

If anyones interested in a orange monster. This is a great deal, comes with extra rubber strap as well.

You won't be disappointed, Rodney. An excellent timepiece, and very substantial on the wrist. The lume is out of this world!!!

Brendan, as mentioned previously, you can get used ones on Amazon, but I bought mine brand new on Amazon at around $150US. VERY satisfied!!!

Yeah, AAFES sometimes charges over the price...except Old Forester bourbon, which they have at real attractive rates

On a side note - are those Seiko rubber straps 20mm? Any purchase info for y'all in the know? Thx.

I think i read that they were 22mm. Not positive though.

I used this site. Im not sure how accurate it is because someone told me that Black monsters didn't exist in 96'. Thats what came up for my serial number.

Hahaha - I think you have a 2006 model slim. Let me guesss, your serial number starts with a 6 right?

The seiko serial #s give the year, but not the decade. So if your watch has a 68XXXX number, then that means it was built in August of 6 (in your case most likely 2006, not 1996). Too bad they don't provide more info.
