As a brand, they are absolutely awful IMO

Well I wish AP would take after then and the new VC Overseas and make it so it’s easy to change straps.

A lady from another table came over and comments on our watches while we are having lunch, she asked for the brand and from her expression can tell she never heard of AP. Among the watches the RG Skeleton caught her eyes.

I’ve noticed this too the few times I’ve been there a Rolex boutique. Only seems to happen with Rolex as other brand AD’s and boutiques usually compliment me on my RO.

Having picked up my Summer Edition from AP London a couple of months or so ago I wore it home (have to for insurance) and on the tube a bloke sitting opposite said 'nice watch' as he got up to get off. Nobody has noticed it since...

That said, of all my watches the SE is the loudest!
Nicest exchange I had was at Boodles when I asked to try on a PP 5712R and the salesman said only if he could try on my RG ROC, so we did the swap and had a good chat.

I can imagine many ladies will have seen you Sam and your fine friends and wanted to know more about what you were all wearing and in what cars you all arrived.

I have had my AP called out 3 times but all three times were by fellow WIS's. Rolex usually gets the most compliments

Saw this thread and asked my wife if anyone has ever commented on her AP. Her reply...”no not really other than Andre Iguodala that one time golfing.” Forgot that happened haha. He does know his watches.

People do notice at times when I subconsciously parade it of sorts with my arm movements, but in their minds its just probably "oh nice looking quality watch" but thats it...no idea how expensive it was which is good. Its about showing I appreciate style, quality and watches without the snobbery commonly associated.

I don't own an AP but my experience with Rolex is that no one really notices it. I've only gotten like a couple of random people comment on mine throughout the years but thats about it.

Strange thing is, I've had a number of positive comments on my Diver (15710ST) but none on on my 44mm RG (26401).

I do wear the RG less admittedly but no one comments on it.

I had a friend ask if my ROO 42mm wasn’t a bit too much of a copy of a hublot!

And my fiancée thinks the whole idea of the visible screw heads was copied from the Cartier Love Bracelet anyway!

Surprised that has been your experience in LA? I usually receive a comment once or twice a week especially if I am wearing the 15400OR (probably the bracelet that catches the eye) and my silver dial diver on white strap. Usually positive comments, often from non-WIS.

I have in the past AP ROO rg 42mm, Volcano, Diver, Vampire, Jarno Trulli and I can tell you no one notice!
My TT Sub received more compliments then all AP!
But the most compliments I received for my Breguet Marine Chrono

Twice.

Once by a classmate in my watchmaking school (to his credit, he noticed it from across the class and my watch is a vintage ultra thin, nothing obvious).

The second time, the husband of a relative saw it on my wrist and he was very impressed...

"Is that a Patek Philippe!?" He yelled.

"Oh, not quite" I replied, "the brand is Audemars Piguet".

"Oh, I don't know that one...it's nice, looks like a Patek" he added with sadness and disarray in his eyes before leaving me. It was quite the funny afternoon.

Logic --> Quality watch --> not a Rolex --> then it must be a Patek (even if it doesn't resemble one in any imaginable way!)

Well, it sort of does given that it is a flat gold watch with two hands and a champagne dial. Something many brands have done in the past.

Anyway, I had a good chuckle about it when it happened.
