Paranoid about my 2 week Royal Oak Chronograph.

Hello my fellow watch lovers,

I am asking for your help in a bid to end my paranoia.

As you may know, there is a "danger zone" of when NOT to change the date using the quick-set date function. Usually for most watches it is 8PM-3AM. However, for the 26331ST Royal Oak Chronograph with the calibre 2385 movement, it is 6PM-1AM.

Anyways, I was being careless about 2 days ago and was too busy admiring my new watch. I unscrewed my crown and used my quick-set date function to advance the date by 3 or 4 days forward before realizing that the I was using my quick-set date function whilst my watch was displaying 9PM and not 9AM.

When I realized my careless mistake, my heart sunk and I pretty much contemplated suicide. I know that if you advance the date whilst in the danger zone, you risk damaging your movement.

After my mistake, I have been extremely paranoid that I ruined my movement so much so that I started to scrutinize every single detail of the watch since, especially the date function. During my observation, I noticed that my 26331 Royal Oak Chronograph date "jumps/advances" to the next day around 5ish minutes before midnight.

My question is if this is normal for the 26331 Royal Oak Chronograph with the 2385 movement and I am just being too paranoid with scrutinizing every detail?
or
Have I just ruined the movement?

Thank you for your help. I will never make the same mistake again. This is my first high-end watch and one that I intend on keeping forever.

Sorry can't provide you with a confident answer, but is the watch running and operating normally? Any indications that there's something wrong?

If not my guess is you're ok, if so, there's your answer.

Either way don't suicide yourself over a watch, or any reason for that matter, but especially not a watch.

Its a watch relax. Why would you even say Suicide over such small things in the context of life. A watch is worth nothing no matter how much it cost financially compared to a life or family or health.

5 minutes before midnight is fine.

I apologize for worrying anybody or offending anybody. I am definitely not going to commit suicide. I was just trying to describe how depressed I was in those moments.

If it is working then i would not worry. I am sure most of us at one time or another has by accident made a similar mistake.

I haven't been that paranoid since my last visit to a coffee shop in Amsterdam

If it seems to be working, its probably fine.

Just tested mine. The date starts moving in the window at about 11.40 and then snaps over fully at about 11.55.

Is changing the date at a certain time really a problem for movements? Is that a thing?

To OP - your watch is there to be enjoyed, not worried about. Make the most of having a watch that most people will never be fortunate enough to own

Don’t worry about it. The date changes at different times on the same model watch. You did not damage your timepiece. Don’t do that every day as it can wear out parts. Think of it like going over a speed bump too fast in a Ferrari. If you do it once is the car ruined? No. Just don’t do it all the time. Sleep well.

Relax... it's just a watch. Even if you messed it up - it's all fixable. If the watch works normally still, no harm no foul. On this model - it's normal for the date window to start advancing about 15 minutes prior to fully changing over (mine changed over at 11:59 or so IIRC.)

It is advised you don't quick change during certain times but it is not going to cause an issue everytime and seems yours is OK, so lesson learned and move on and now enjoy!

If it is running fine then no need to worry. Date change 5 min before midnight is normal.

In my experience 5 minutes from midnight is good for Rolex let alone AP. You're fine relax

I think its more a case of doing it often that leads to movement damage, not one time.

I have done this many times, my watch still runs perfectly and is 9 years old. And by many I mean 50 plus! Now that I know not to I don't, though I don't always remember!

some movements its an issue, some its not. The manual from AP states not to do it to "avoid mistakes" when setting the date, IE AM/PM not being right. It does not say its harmful to the watch. I assume if it was harmful it would say so. Ive seen other watch manuals when it says it will damage the movement to set the date when the calendar is engaged.

Personally i never do it because i want the date to be right. I always move the hands past midnight to make sure I'm in AM, set the time, then adjust the date. Otherwise you have no idea if the calendar is going to change the date over at noon.

+1

I never paid attention to what position it was when I set the date.

Should I?

Probably a good idea to seek out a therapists, rather than help on this forum........you are way overboard in your emotions and reactions to a watch....get a grip!!!!!

I’m guilty of this but it looks awful when you have to the the correct time From your phone rather than your high end watch!!!
