Officer down LA

Police Officer Michael Louviere, Westwego Louisiana PD was shot and killed today while off duty when he stopped to assist at what he believed to be an accident scene at the intersection of Barataria Boulevard and Ames Boulevard.

He was driving home at approximately 6:30 am, still in uniform, at the end of his shift when he encountered the crash scene. Unbeknownst to Officer Louviere, the crash was the result of a domestic violence incident. As Officer Louviere tended to an injured woman in one of the vehicles a male subject approached him from behind and shot him in the back of the head, killing him. The man then fatally shot the female before fleeing the scene.

The subject who shot him remains at large.

Officer Louviere was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had served with the Westwego Police Department for 18 months. He is survived by his wife, 4-year-old daughter, and 1-year-old son.

Godspeed to you my brother, sleep in peace. May your wife, children and fellow officers find peace.

Thanks Rich, no need to apologize. It's an unbelievable world out there for officers these days.

The perp is sitting on the edge of the GNOCC (Crescent City Connection) with officers trying to talk him down. I have to say I hope he looses his balance! They should tell him to go ahead and jump. POS!!!

Totally agree Kaya. The Officer simply stopped to help a woman on his way home from his shift... all police should ride in pairs nowadays... I would gladly pay more taxes to allow this to fiscally happen.

is close to mine .. 30 miles/ they just did a live shot of the suspect from the Bridge. The guy is on a lower level, bridge is closed and all New Orleans traffic is gridlocked as a result...about 20 officers are about 12 feet above him looking down on him. They threw a rope down to the lower level but the guy is not accepting it so far. The bridge is very high above the Mississippi and if he jumps there is no survival

Yes, I am an hour Southwest of New Orleans. Makes me so upset that an officer lost his life just trying to help a woman (who they just identified as pregnant) who was also chased down and killed!
