5513 🕷 dial

Got a deal on a 5513 full set. The only issue was that the watch was torn down by a Rolex service center in the mid 90s. Service dial, hands, and insert. I was lucky since I had the insert in my parts drawer. The dial I had purchased a few months ago looking for the right watch. I got lucky for perfectly matching creamy patina hands last week. Here she is. Please comment away. If you are not a fan of the spider dial...you should be! Looks different at every angle. I also have a full set 16800 spider dial that I love!

Beautiful piece but I just see those dials being trouble in the years to come.

my watchmaker said the same thing....then he said that he had never seen one become an issue either. i guess the risk would be a piece breaking off.....if the watch had a date wheel i would be more concerned......if a piece breaks off here i can either reattach or remove. Some like, some don't. The watch sparkles like a diamond in the sun. I like it.

c'mon now....

If you got it reduced due to the "spidering," then good for you. But let's not drink the Kool Aid put out by sellers pushing the fiction of the "spider dial" or "tropical dial." They're damaged and/or sub-par dials. Be wary of anyone trying to create a market for something "special" that's truly anything but.

I would argue some tropical is not fiction nor defect, but wear of time. Yes, some tropicals are more water damage but there are some killer legit tropicals out there.

Wow, that looks really cool. I've always been leery of spider dials. Chances of it getting worse or falling apart as has already been discussed. So probably wouldn't buy one myself.
But again, I can't deny that example looks awesome! Such cool reflections!

Congrats, love 5513's

You can always try to source a vintage replacement should you decide to go that route. Give Nick Gogas a try (greekbum).

I got it with the service dial in it. Likely an original spider dial. I took it back to its original state. I am not a seller but largely a buyer. I like it. Prefer it to a gloss dial. I got a smoking deal on the insert and trit hands. Bought the dial six months ago and waited for a nice watch. Found one and pounced. I would match it against any gloss dial 5513 with similar color of the plots......

5513 🕷 dial

Nice job, the tritium has a beautiful warmth the luminova can't match. Congratulations on a cracking watch.
IMHO the spider dial is part of this reference whether you like it not.
I like mine too! It's all original with box and papers as well.

Looks ok and a good conversation piece easily put back to 'original'.

Has there ever been a documented spider dial that actually had a piece fall off?
