I'm jealous and curious......
I have to admit- I'm a bit jealous of those guys who have a watch or two and are content AND never even consider flipping. A buddy of mine has worn a coke GMT for 12 years and it NEVER leaves his wrist and he wouldn't even consider flipping it. I however have owned probably 20 watches over the last 5 years and am ALWAYS considering an "upgrade" or change. Any watch I own is always on probation UNLESS it was a gift (only one of those). So gents I'm curious which category you fall in?

I guess it's been at least a week since this topic has been done so I suppose we're due.
I own a Rolex....a GMT 16710.....and I wear it every day. I will continue to do so until I die, and then my son will get it. Seems very normal to me. I do have a 14270 produced the year my son was born. We will give it to him when he graduates from college in four years. |

You have to come to the conclusion on your own. Most ,not all, enjoy the hunt and act of flipping more than the watch itself. If they enjoyed the watch more, they'd keep it right?
Then their are others who's taste evolves. These people don't flip watches weekly/monthly but over longer periods of times, even years.

I'm happy with my DeepSea black and would never sell it. I felt the same about my Submariner for 25 years but then emotion got in the way and stopped me wearing it for fear of losing it! I went on a dive watch frenzy trying a lot of Seiko, Doxa and CWC but eventually came to understand that I was only swapping and changeing because I hadn't bought the watch I should have in the first place.
I gave the Sub' to my daughter who wears it everyday and I now no longer hanker for anything else. I did buy a BLNR but, and I'm probably out on my own a bit here, found it along with a new Explorer 1 when I tried that on, a bit underwhelming. BLNR now gone without even taking the stickers off. Someone else said the same about the Exp' 1 this morning. They are of course fantastic watches but just didn't do it for me. I think when you find the one you may lose interest in the others so keep searching. |

I voted as a flipper would.
But this poll would be cool if it had the third option of a flipper that would prefer to simply have the one or two watch collection.

Flipping is typical consumerism. People are always open to the latest and greatest thing.
I tend to hold on to things until I lose them or they are beyond repair. I've only lost one Rolex so far (in the early 80's) and the rest will likely never be beyond repair. |

I've got a few pieces, but find myself wearing the 16610 99% of the time. It's perfect for me and is never going anywhere

I'm so young that it all seems new to me. In the future, I'll probably add rather than flip

I'd love to vote both, as I've come to a place that keeps me content. I've decided on 4, possibly 5 'keepers'. But.....i will keep a couple on hand to sell or trade as the flipper in me sees fit! Total satisfaction achieved

I've had my YM for the past 12 years, recently serviced and shes good as new. I have no plans of flipping it although sometimes I get curious about other watches (Hulk has been on my head for a while). But I really try to live my life with "Less is more" always in my head, plus, I really love my YM. It's all about preference and which lifestyle you choose. There's no wrong in having a watch or having 20, it's your money and you have to do what ever makes you happy, at the end of the day, that's what it's all about, being happy.

My Breitling was a gift from my parents. The Omega was purchased when my second daughter was born. I bought the sub with funds from a sale of an ATV I bought ten years prior, along with a diamond that I found.
My collection will only be added to. I love the watches I own and chose them because I thought they would make a complete collection that I could enjoy for a long long time. Honestly I'm not really even looking for something else right now, because I am content with what I have. It's a nice place to be... |

He's 18 now but he doesn't know about it. I bought it pre-owned a couple years ago as a birth year watch for him, to be given as a college graduation gift in four years. I do wear it occasionally....but out of his sight. I'll probably give it to my wife to wear for the next four years in safekeeping for him, once he leaves for college this summer.

It's not that I'm always thinking of flipping but I am waiting for WG ceramic bezel Daytona. If that happens, my Explorer and current Daytona will go leaving me with a three watch WG collection. Then I think I'm done.

Every time I want a new watch I do a review of my current collection and see what watches are not getting wrist time.
Have I lost interest in them? Do they not have any sentimental value? Is there any overlap between styles/look of the watches? Can I get decent money on them to help fund the next purchase? If any of my watches fall into these categories I will let them go to help fund the next purchase. Right now I have a pretty diverse group so I'm looking to add and not flip. |

I only have 3 "good" watches a Rolex Datejust, Tudor Black Bay, and Grand Seiko which I wear in rotation. I can imagine getting more when finances allow, but I'm not the kind of person who sells or exchanges anything (except cars).

I just don't flip. I spend so much time researching and trying on at AD's prior to buying, I have never felt the need. I knew the models I bought would be upgraded/replaced at some point, but felt I wanted them enough at the time to buy them and keep them.
Even the Explorer, which has had a great upgrade....and I have tried on. Great watch that I would buy if I didn't already have an example. But not going to flip to get one. With 3 watches, finding a watch I truly want long-term for a fourth is very hard. Nothing has sung to me yet. Maybe one more down the road at some point. I wore a Raymond Weil Parsifal for 13 years before getting a Rolex, so I can go a long time without adding watches.

I think I have found my watch heaven. I have a core three that will not change unless something amazing is released that is also quite similar, and another two/three that I am prepared to maybe flip to keep my collection and interest fresh.

Like a notorious 'player' for some individuals the pleasure is in the pursuit itself and when a certain degree of boredom (and/or higher aspirations) kick in, they simply move on to newer conquests.
Like chasing beautiful women, the process can get expensive at times. |

Go through phases. Seems I flip more since I joined this forum...LOL
Tried most models I am interested in. Some I have had on multiple occasions. The next step is to move to PM. The only consistent theme is that I tend to always end up back with Submariners. |
