Has this ever happened to you (Rolex purchase)

I went into a very well established watch dealer in Miami to purchase my first (New modern rolex) its a DJ 116334

I got to looking around and found the watch i wanted and began talking to the salesmen who was very cocky and kept rambling about the "watch game" and how the watch i was looking at would look much better on a women or a girlfriend and basically making me feel like its would be a "weak purchase to spend 8 grand and no one is going to turn their head to a DJ

I've been saving up for several months now and he made me question my own judgement and i just felt uncomfortable and left.

I had the money in pocket the price was right and i left.
After feeling like i was "buying a womens watch" a 41mm Dj

so i went to an AD and it was night and day. They made me feel like royalty from start to finish. Regained my confidence in my own choice.
deal was more but worth it. I got the watch i wanted and was very pleased.

sorry for the long post here. What I'm wondering is if anyone else has ever gone into a very well reputable seller store and had something like this happen?

I think a lot of AD's (I speak for germany) sell enough Rolex watches, so you have a lot of unfriendly salespeople
But you have the choice to buy at an another AD

In february I check the AD's in Miami

Bad service at some ADs is unfortunately common. Way to address it is by shopping elsewhere. (And stating the names of the bad ones here helps -one of the advantages of social platforms).

Congrats on the watch! You made a great choice. Wear in good health.

The "Watch Game" is a term that is getting old. Pretty sure most memebers here buy what they like and not what they think is going to impress a total stranger.

I have no clue how watch salesman get paid, but I am going to go out on a limb and say they are commission based like pretty much every other sales position.

My question would be, what type of salesman talks someone who has cash in hand and is ready to buy, out of the sale? Doesn't seem like a good strategy to me.

Walk in with these watches and you can say "I AM the watch game" when a salesperson pulls that crap.

I'm not sure tyre kickers would make anyone resort to being cocky towards a potential customer. Sounds like the salesman was a muppet to me.

Go to an AD with professional sales staff........I've been in sales, both wholesale b to b sales & retail sales since 1975, a good salesperson never should have a bad day, you have to be positive, knowledgeable, cheerful, respectful.......if not get outta sales.

Never been treated poorly by an authrorized dealer. Well once I was ignored at Journe in Miami but certainly not talked rudely to anywhere. Sounds like he's a crap salesman.

Manners mean everything to me and that's why I do most of my business with a small group of people these days. Mainly my AD and Thanh Do.

Curious. What particular Rolex model was he steering you towards (if any?). These days women are wearing anything from DJs to Daytonas so the gender call on a specific watch model is a weak one.

No he wasn't trying to sell me a different watch, just made me feel the one i wanted was feminine. Not sure what approach he was taking.

To me i would think if I'm buying a plain cheapest Rolex made or the highest end one they sell, i would think they would treat the sale as a sale and encourage the purchase itself.

Miami is a big city but a small world. Im not going to call anyone out. Its the salesmen not the business. The store is reputable and this was recent. So id rather just keep it as an experience.

Sounds like an uber driver I had once. He kept telling me how he "rocks a Panerai" because it's "all in the game" ... I didn't argue with him because I was trying to preserve my 5.0 passenger rating

I vote with my feet all the time.
If they don't communicate that they want the sale they don't get it.
