Vintage Rolex Submariner 1962?
Hi everyone,
I recently came across a vintage Submariner on Craigslist of all places. I wanted to get some general feedback on what I should offer for a piece such as this. Thanks in advance, AJ Here is the description: I purchased this watch used in 1979.The orig.band/bracelet was the stainless stretch type but the springs were tired out so I purchased a good quality fake band/bracelet and thats whats on the watch now.I still have the orig.band.No box.I am looking for offers on the watch. No dealers please! If your offer seems acceptable,I will meet up with you at a bank or other secure place of business at my agreement. This will be only a cash deal.I will only respond to emails with your location and phone number. No texting please. Please dont ask me what my best offer has been or whats the best I'll take for it.Any knowledgeable Rolex collector knows the value of the watch!Thank You |

Please check Johns article on old 5512's. A mint 4-liner is worth 50k+ nowdays. Not super easy to determine condition on that one but looks to be slightly tropical as well? Would need much better pics to determine authenticity and condition. Looks fairly untouched to me. Lume could be redone? Not easy to see from your pics.
Afraid your post might cause some activity at Craigslist. ;) http://mansfinelife.com/2015/09/02/t...ont-miller-ii/ |

I will not have the funds to purchase the watch, so if anyone wants to give it a go, here is the address to the rolex: Happy hunting everyone, good luck!

Besides the fact that I'm pretty certain the top two lines should be gilt, the word "SUBMARINER" shouldn't be crooked, sloping downwards to the right, and extending that far to the right under the top line.

The white print is on top of the lacquer and gilt text which is under. Normal to see it misaligned. |

Probably earlier but we don't know the pictured watch is from -62 either. Or at least I can't read the serial from the pic. Quite common people use incorrect lists or purchase dates when they try to date a watch. I'm not vouching for anything here but it looks promising at least.

Here is mine - which is not pristine by any measure, but authentic, for comparison:
