Very old 5513 - correct bracelet??
Hello all. My first post. I have just a bought what appears to be a very old 5513. The serial number dates it to between 1959 and 1962 according to my limited research. It came on a Jubilee bracelet which I believe is not correct. What bracelet should I buy for it? And can I be guaranteed that bracelets on places like the bay and other watch sites are genuine?
I will post some pics soon. |

Hi Peter Welcome to TRF...
I think the 5513 started in 1962 and am pretty sure it would have had an oyster folded links bracelet 9315. I am sure others will chip in and pls correct me if wrong. Steve Mulholland a member here on TRF can probably help you source one, you will find him in the for sale section of the forum. Love to see some pictures of your 5513, haven't seen many with a gilt dial... |

Peter: Congrats on your 5513 purchase.
I feel your watch was originally equipped with a riveted links Oyster bracelet. I´m sure other more knowledgeable members will help you in finding one appropiate one en suite with the vintage of your watch: a true classic! Enjoy your Sub in good health.

Peter, Welcome..
As you have surmised, the Jubilee was never fitted to a Sub from the factory.. As to finding an original, it is not an easy task, especially one that is usable; and no, there is no guarantee that you will find a genuine one on e-bay, quite the opposite is likely... Since you do not have an original on it, and it is likely that you want to wear this piece as a functional and usable time-piece, I would recommend that you look at an aftermarket rivet bracelet at Qualitytyme.com . I lieu of that, a replacement would be a modern 93150 with 580 or 501 end-links... a service, but not period correct, option.

If you could please post pics of the bracelet that is on the watch and the clasp showing any markings.Different country's had different bracelts. AD's back than would swap things etc. You could get a submariner on any band or bracelet you wanted back than. The best way is to post very detailed pics of the watch. So that we can help.

Thanks guys. I tried to take some pics but they ended up blurry. Am going to have to borrow someone's camera with a better lens.
I see 5313s started in 1962 but they were obviously manufactured before then. My serial number is 150XXXX. The previous owner had the crazed crystal replaced by his local jeweller so that's not quite right either - the edge doesn't sit flush with the bezel. I have put on a faux flip lock bracelet which feels OK though a bit light. Given the chances of finding a decent old bracelet seem remote, I might go for a NATO strap. They look pretty smart. Only problem is choosing a colour. |

That sub with the "flush fit" bracelet looks interestingly different.

New pics
My friend's camera did the job OK. You can see the dial now. I think it's totally original and nicely aged. It's feet first so even though it's serial number 150XXXX it must be from the mid-60s???
The crystal is too high so I must get that replaced. The watch was on a mate's wrist for many years until he finally sold it to me. It was serviced a few years back (when the crystal was replaced) and it has never been polished. The little dings and marks give it character (well that's what I tell myself). I will post pics of the Jubilee bracelet which it came on in a week or so. It's now on a Tudor President Day Date in my mother's safe. I look forward to your thoughts on the watch. |
