Precision Rolex c.1947

My husband has inherited this watch but sadly it does not work. We want to have it restored and have a place in mind but we would really like to know more about it. I cannot find any similar on any vintage Rolex dealer's sites. The date stamp is 480363 which I think is 1947/48 and the model number is 4560. Any help on this would be fantastic and really appreciated.

You and your husband have a very nice stainless steel dress (i.e. non-Oyster) watch with interesting '40s-style crab lugs. I'm not otherwise familiar with this case reference #. The crystal should polish up nicely with some Brasso or Polywatch (or, some others have suggested, toothpaste). The dial is aged, but I wouldn't in the world have it refinished. It's quite presentable. Any experienced watchmaker should be able to service this manual wind Precision (i.e. non-chronometer rated) movement, which I believe is a 10.5 ligne size. The watch looks rather large -- is it a 34 or 35 mm case?

One thing I would do pronto is ditch the twist-o-flex type band and get a nice crocodile or tan or gray ostrich strap.

Thanks Adam - yes the band is not suitable and falling off anyway and yes, it is 35mm.

That is a beauty. The movement does not seem to show rust or corrosion in your picture. A good watchmaker should be able to service and repair it as it has a fairly basic manual movement.

DO NOT touch the dial or hands.

With a brown croc band it will be stunning and a real treasure.

"With a brown croc band it will be stunning and a real treasure."

That was such a good choice for this watch. Wow, I can picture that already.

I would be interested to hear what Bob Ridley would say about the dial though.
