Can anyone help appraise this 61 Oyster Date?
Hi all,
I gave a little TLC to my friend's heirloom Oyster Date recently. I told him this forum hosts many Ph.Ds in "Rolexology" and that perhaps someone could estimate it's worth since he asked me and I had no idea. It has been serviced and keeps good time. It was procured by his grandfather (original owner) circa 1961. Here are some specs: Model: 1501 Oyster Perpetual Date Caliber: 1565 automatic Bracelet: Oyster Serial #: 6XXXXX (which corresponds to circa 1961 date of mfr) As you can see from the pics it has been worn and has scratches on the case/crystal but it's overall condition is good. I told him it's value as a family heirloom is inestimable. But after spelunking around on the web if I had to guesstimate a dollar value I'd say about $1500-2000? Barring any unforeseen defect/feature that would substantially decrease/increase it's value. Any information or knowledgeable estimates would be appreciated. Thanks! --Paul

Is there a bracelet or just the watch head? Does the watch have all the paperwork, boxes, etc? There is a spread from what a dealer would pay and what you could expect to retail it at.

Can't help with the value but I love the ss engine turned bezel. Very nice example.

Because of the scratches, etc, I think it would probably sell for around $1500 with the papers. It would run around $2000 if from a recognized dealer offering a guarantee.
