Greetings everyone. This is my first post, though I've been lurking here for a while as a guest. I'm hoping to tap some of your expertise.

I just acquired an early 70's 1675 GMT. The dial on the watch looks to have been re-lumed at some point, which is not a big issue to me, but I also notice when looking at the dial closely that the printing seems to have a silverish tint, and does not appear to be white under some lighting conditions. It's definitely got a little sparkle.

I'm posting a few pictures of the watch. I would appreciate any and all comments as it is not yet to late to back out of the deal.

It looks like a gilt-finish (gold font) dial and it appears to be refinished. The font should be white for a 1970's vintage GMT.

I'm not so worried about the re-lume as I am the accuracy of the dial in general. The silverish text concerns me, as does the spacing on "SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER". I've been unable to find another example where the "G" in "GMT" is directly over the "E" in "SUPERLATIVE". Normally it is more of the "R".

I've seen one of these silver font dials of a high quality GMT replica. Perhaps such dial has been put on your GMT...

It looks like a refinished dial. Here's a pic of my 1978 with original dial.

I saw your post on VRF as well. I have to concur with Ben in this case - IMHO, a replica dial. Particularly suspect is the coronet, but the font and spacing, while very, very close, don't seem quite "right" to me. However, it could be someone's idea of an "artistic" refinish of an original dial, but I doubt it.

That watch with this dial is listed on ebay right now. Again, that dial is refinished on fake, either way it is fairly worthless on a collector watch. An original dial is around $300 - $400.

I saw this dial being shopped around on other forums also. I guess he's looking for someone to tell him it is genuine.
