Did Rolex make a non luminous DJ in 1997? I noticed most dials have the word T Swiss at the bottom and have luminous hands/dial. The one I like just says Swiss Made. The watch I found doesn’t have any luminous hands or markings on the dial.

Can it be real? Will try to post pics but since I’m new to the forum I can’t post links.

Besides Roman Numerals i believe some were non luminous, wide boys?

This was around the time of the transition away from tritium for lume, along with its "T-Swiss-T" and "Swiss-T <25" dial designations. Going forward, it was "Swiss Made" or just "Swiss".

I was able to figure out how to upload an image.

Here is the dial. The watch is supposed to be a 16234 "U" serial number from 1997. My hunch is the dial is not original but instead swapped out with an older dial.

1. Does having an older/non-original dial significantly decrease the watch value?

2. Is the dial authentic?

Thanks so much for your help. Newbie to the Rolex world and really enjoying the education.

It’s not a service dial. I’ve had one, same year and non inverted Roman numerals.

Thanks so much. Learn so much for you all. I didn’t realize there was a distinction based upon direction of the Roman numerals.

Does anyone know what year Rolex started inverting the Roman numerals?

Does anyone know what year Rolex stopped producing the non-inverted dial for the datejust?

As in replaced during service. I think it may be later than 1997.

I went ahead and purchased the watch. It arrived today. Although it didn’t have any papers, the seller did include a Rolex Service Guarantee Card. Seems like the watch was real and original otherwise Rolex wouldn’t have serviced it.
