^^^This. I have a friend who lives here in LA, but has a relationship with Las Vegas AD. But LA is 3-4 Hours away from LV, so I'm not sure if that's still considered local.

Authorized dealer selling only to local residents?

Is this permissible? Legally? Or by Rolex?

That’s what I encountered in PA and DE. I think it’s probably different in locations where there is a lot of tourism. Obviously like an airport or Las Vegas.

Here in Hawaii I would guess that most of the heavy hitters are from another state, or more likely another country.

Sure it would, these AD's are always part of bigger chains like Wempe, trust me, the hot pieces don't get sold to random walk ins unless they bundle big.

Most likely they will just be moved to other stores and sold to vips.

If we were talking about agreements between ADs to refrain from marketing outside their territories or about watch producers restricting their distributors from competing outside their territories - that would be about as legal as bundling a Pepsi with a few grams of coke, so to speak.
Actually, in the US it is legal. I have a contract to distribute products for a major US corporation. I may only sell their products within my “assigned territory” which in this case is defined by specific counties within a state. Legally, I can sell anywhere. But, selling outside my territory will result in the cancellation of my contract by the supplier. Further if I knowingly sell to someone who comes to my facility from another territory I am violating the terms of my contract. Not saying that this is how Rolex distribution contracts are written. Rather stating that a supplier can, and will, limit who and where it’s distributor can sell its products, and it is legal to do so in the US.

It is good business, more likely to get repeat business when you are local.
