I was getting ready for work..@ the time, I was a manager for a large travel company when I got a call from 1 of my agents..who said 'Turn on the TV' .. when I did - I couldnt believe what I was watching. It was unreal, unbelievable, uncomprehensable.. I was numb. - Being a NY'er .. I couldnt fathom what I was witnessing. My wife and are were glued to the news... -
. My nephew worked at the WTC...but fortunatley, missed his regular bus in from NJ and didnt get to work. . Eventually I got in to the office ..and hell broke loose. We changed/re-wrote/re-routed more airline tickets and passengers, that were'nt even our clients than ever...- It was a very stressful day and days that followed.... The airlines were most cooperative under the circumstances - but the work was intense. The news that day was continuous....and the depression started to set in, then and still today. Another 'Day' or Time to life in Infamy...! . 10 years or 100 years - Never to be forgotten. 'They' - achieved their objective... We have to be sure it doesnt happen again - Anywhere!!!!!!!!

I was at work in the ER. The TV in my office was on. I watched in confusion as the second plane hit the tower. At that point, we knew there was an attack.
Three F-16 pilots from the 119th Fighter Wing of the North Dakota ANG were doing a stint at Langley. They were scrambled and spent the day circling Washington, DC, watching the Pentagon burn with orders to shoot down any aircraft that did not immediately obey their orders to land. They all still live nearby in Fargo and have spent a lot of time the past two weeks speaking about their experiences. |

I was on the trading desk at a S.F. investment banking firm as they cut to the live shot of the building on CNBC...nobody knew what happened. We were watching the live feed as the 2nd plane hit...we instantly knew what was happening. Our offices were in the B of A building in S.F., a local icon also a possible a prime target. We were 45 floors up and totally exposed (if it was a coordinated, multi-city attack). Needless to say everyone left in a hurry. As an aside, I was leaving for NYC on that Wed. and had reservations at the WTC Marriott, as our HQ was right across the street from the WTC in the World Financial Center. I stayed there dozens of times and had dinner and drinks at the Windows on the World at least as many times. Still gives me the chills to think about that and the friends that I lost. Wow. 10 years...

I just rolled in to work (right next to LAX) and poured some coffee. Someone came from the break room saying a plane crashed in to the WTC. She was known for not always having the correct information.
I turned on the TV in the W/C's office and we saw the news. Phone calls were made to staff and we were in scramble mode.

At work at a hospital in KS. Went to the waiting room to get a patient, saw the second plane hit during the morning news show. My baby sister had just dropped her kids off at the day care on FT Meade and was headed to a meeting at the pentagon. Her husband had just walked out of a meeting on the other side of the pentagon when the plane hit there. Took us most of the day to get ahold of them.

On Wall Street. It was one of the most terrifying moments of my entire life. I didn't see the first plane hit, but the first memory I have of it is the noise. The noise was unbelievable. It was a minute before I figured out what was going on, and by then the entire district was panicking. Strangely I calmed down a bit at that point, as the threat seemed more physical.
I've never had sheer terror pour through my as it did that day for that first minute. You don't know fear until you've experienced your world ending. I spent the entire day calling my friends who worked in the buildings and making sure that they were okay. |
