You can do it off the coast of San Francisico. I recall it being close to $1000.

Actually, as it turns out, it wasn't a real great-white crusing our shores Randy, it was Jan Davis wearing a shark costume.....

Respect these beasts at all times and taking all possible precaution is never too much . My late father was an marine biologist till the early '80,s who came across many great whites of the coast in S.Africa . No great white got him , only faulty ( most likely cause ) dive equipment got the better of him .

worse than sharks..

There was another article today about a shark at the kids pool in La Jolla Cove. Yes, sharks can kill you, though the odds are pretty slim in La Jolla.

In May this year I did a 13 mile run and then did a quick swim at La Jolla shores- stepped on a stingray, but didn't feel much pain until about an hour later, then it hit me--ouch... I used hot water for a few hours, which helped, but I limped and had purple foot for one week...

Swami's Beach

".......News 8 has obtained a photo (seen above) taken Wednesday, August 31 by a News 8 viewer at Swami's. A local shark expert has confirmed to News 8 that the shark in the photo is a 10 to 12 foot great white shark."

And now this: Beach reopened after third shark sighting - Would you go back in right away?????

SAN DIEGO — A two-mile stretch of beach that San Diego lifeguards closed Wednesday after the third possible great white shark sighting in less than a week was reopened Thursday.

Boogie boarders spotted the 12-inch dorsal fin off Casa Reef south of Children’s Pool in La Jolla about 2 p.m., lifeguard Lt. Nick Lerma said.

Lifeguards searched the area and saw no evidence of the shark and had no further reports of any sightings.

A report that a shark was seen Thursday morning off the coast near Sunset Cliffs was determined to not be credible. (Really??....I would go by the above photo, myself, and stay out of the water just a bit longer!)

The closure, which stretched from Hospital Point north to Devil’s Slide, was changed to an advisory at 10 a.m. Beachgoers will be told of the sighting and warned of the danger.

Last week, Mission Beach was closed Thursday and again on Friday after a lifeguard and then a surfer reported seeing a large, triangular-shaped dorsal fin in the water. Based on the size of the fin, described as 14 to 18 inches tall, experts said it was possible that it belonged to a great white as big as 10 feet long.

In the meantime the body of a seal that looked like it had been bitten by a large animal was discovered in Ocean Beach Wednesday night.

The partially eaten carcass was pulled out of the water near Ocean Beach Pier about 9:30 p.m. by a fisherman, Lerma said. A shark likely killed the seal, he said.

Juvenile sharks feed on fish, but as they get older and bigger their prey will include marine mammals such as harbor seals, sea lions and elephant seals.

So several buddies are calling those of us who aren't surfing "chicken" for not planning to venture beyond wading distance at the beach. I sent them the pic above and said they're welcome to continue with their surfing plans.
