PAM 390 vs. PAM 372
I need a little advise... I made my first Panerai purchase this summer and secured a PAM 390. It has solid Panerai DNA look to it and the tobacco dial with the gold hands is a wonderful combination. I wish it had the sandwich dial and as a result, I am considering selling my 390 to get a 372. They look identical except for the sandwich dial, the size (44mm vs. 47mm) and the crystal. It is a fair chunk of cash more expensive and is not near as limited. There is also the question of whether my wrist can carry the 372. For the purpose of this question, let's assume I can carry the size. What choice would you make or guidance would you provide me.
If it matters, I also picked up a PAM 005 for a more daily wear. Thanks |

I'd sell the 005, keep the 390 and get the 372.

While I prefer the font on the 390 to the 372, pretty much everything else of the 372 is better. Since you have an 005 for daily wear (love the 005, btw), I say make the trade. 005 and 372 is a pretty sweet Luminor duo. Good luck with the choice!

I prefer the 372 to the 390. IMO I'd keep the 005 and sell the 390 for the 372.
I like the idea of having one with a 'vintage' charm that the 372 has and a slightly 'modern' 005 piece to switch in between. Best of luck in your decision! |

But based on your own observations (or lack thereof), I think you should go with the 372 - a great PAM for a one-PAM-family

The only thing the 390 and 372 have in common is they're both bases. Everything else is different. Size, case, dial color, numerals, movement, etc.

There is definitely something about 372, I actually prefer it more than any other luminors.

I'd trade the 390+005 for the 372. You won't need any other PAMs.

Keep the 390. Sell the 005 & save up for the 372.
Good luck! |

PAM 390 vs PAM 372
Thanks for all help. I think the general consensus is any combination that includes the 372 rules the day.

A Panerai is a Panerai. Buy what YOU like and forget what other people think. I don't buy into one particular watch is more of a "Panerai" than another rubbish. Its too subjective and sounds a bit elitist and ridiculous. I never hear buy a Rolex Sub because its more Rolex than a Daytona. If you like it and can afford it, then buy it. If you have to split hairs on why its better than what you have, then maybe you might want to think about if its worth the additional investment. We here are in a fishbowl and are the 1%ers of the watch buying public. Perspective sometimes gets lost on the never ending quest for the next watch.
Something to think about.

390 over the 372... make sure the 47mm watches work for you before buying it.
I vote 390 and 422... they will make the 372 for years to come and might even upgrade it to a Sapphire but the 390 will never be produced that way at that price point again. The Bettarini case (original Luminor case) is still my favorite case out of all the ones Panerai has produced thus far. |
