Considering moving to an Aquanaut from DSSD

I'm basically no lonet happy with Rolex, especially the new oils, new flaws, and what's looking to be much more frequent servicing ....

Give me some ups and downs on the Aquanaut. . And approximate used value on a stainless piece. Rubber strap

Believe it or not, it's by far my favorite Patek piece.

Time to step away from this DSSD

Thanks all

I love my 5164, but i know full well servicing times will be longer and service intervals will be more frequent than with Rolex. Considering that is your motivation in going to PP I think you may be disappointed.

I like PP for different reasons than why I like Rolex as they are very different. Servicing times and servicing intervals is not PP's strong suit from everything i have read. Mine is new so i have not experienced it first hand yet.

What's servicing interval for PP? And cost

At this rate, Rolex is looking like every 3 years ish...

I'd be more happy to service a PP that often than I will be a Rolex tbh. Plus feels like a nice step up

Altho im unsure of "value" for buying a used example

not pleased with Rolex reliability and service regiment. Wants to get a Patek!

That's like not being happy with the reliability of your Toyota and buying a Land Rover.

I should say I had no issues with my 5167 aside from some questionable lume application.

The Aquanaut is a lot thinner and lighter than the DSSD or any Rolex watch for that matter. However it depends if you are looking to get the SS vs RG Aquanaut and the tropical bracelet vs the metal bracelet.

You may be able to get a used 5167A for a couple of thousand off new retail price, but not a huge discount.

The 5167A is undoubtedly the most comfortable watch on the wrist as most Aquanaut owners can testify.

If you are looking for a watch of size/presence to impress others, the Aquanaut is far from that. It is a watch you want to wear to be not noticed. Only a WIS will recognize an Aquanaut.

As a disclosure, I own 3 Aquanauts and love them all!

Where are you getting the impression that a Rolex needs serviced so often?
And what is wrong with the ‘new’ oils?
When Rolex announced the introduction of the new 5 year warranty, they also confirmed that its first service had been extended to 10 years, with subsequent services still the same 5 years as previously.

As for cost of servicing the 5167 – about 50% more than your Rolex, but expect to be without the watch for twice to three times as long, with 5 years still being the predicted timeframe between services.

I can almost guarantee you'll like the service interval, service time, and costs of a Patek even less.

Two very different watches and service with Patek is not going to be better than Rolex.

You'll love the 4-6 month Patek service times.

What 'new flaws' and 'more frequent serving' are you referring, as I don't own any Rolex?

Whilst I am not familiar with the issues that you mention (though like others on this thread would certainly welcome further information and details) and though I would certainly not like to discourage you from considering Patek Philippe if you like the Aquanaut, if you are looking for a direct replacement for your Rolex, have you considered Omega, for example?

That's got to be "longer" right, one hell of a typo. Maybe he didn't mean "oils" at all...

I wouldn't do it ... plus I really don't like that model .
Now if it were the nautilus that might be a different story...

To trade a Dssd, which is pretty common out there and for a Patek

Absolutely, 100%

I don't know what you mean by new oil but if you're talking of new movements of Rolex they're as tough as they can get. Rolex is so confident of their movements that's why they came up with a 5 yr warranty and 10 year service intervals.

I have an 8 yr old Nauty 5711 that has the same movement as the Aquanaut and haven't been serviced nor opened and still running strong!

Just buy and enjoy them as both watches are worth it... regardless of service cost and turnaround time. They're both worth it. Good luck.
