The King has arrived!
King Seiko, SJE083 arrived yesterday. I am very happy with it. There was some indecision about this purchase for me, I saw many criticisms in the comments sections of the reviews I saw. Most reviews are glowing. The big issue for some was the price, and indeed it is pricey, kind of closing in on Grand Seiko territory.
One of my biggest attractions to this watch is the dimensions. I like smaller watches, I'm a senior and that's what I grew up with. 38 mm is real good for me. It is also 11.4 mm thick, nice dimensions. It sits nicely on my big wrist. It is somewhat modernized and bigger than the original, and the movement is also updated, the 6L35, on the thin side with great accuracy. I am a fan of classics, and the King Seiko is based on a 1965 Seiko, this is also a limited edition. A big part of this watch is the lugs, their large flat planes with sharp angles are highly polished with the acclaimed Zaratsu polishing technique. I'm happy with it, the watch exudes class, taste and tradition with exceptional workmanship. Here are just a few fast pictures that don't really capture its beauty. I want to add that I have owned several Grand Seikos, still own a quartz that I like a good bit (37 mm). I have occasionally scored some nice Grand Seikos at great prices (you can't always count on that, especially these days), but for whatever reason, they haven't lasted here. Granted I am picky. I am not exactly sure of how this stands next to its competitors in this price range, but I would say the King Seiko can hold its own... Last edited by Tbonewalk; 3 October 2021 at 06:10 AM.. Congrats! It's a gorgeous watch, one I considered myself when I first saw it, but whenever I buy a dressier watch it doesn't last, so I didn't take the plunge. It looks great though, enjoy it!

My first Grand Seiko
Today I purchased a new SBGN021 and brought it home. I was looking for a smaller watch to wear than my Planet ocean and this one caught my eye about a month ago.
I done a good deal of research about GS movements and my requirements at my work. I decided to go with the 9F series quartz. I almost choose the high beat and a beautiful green dial but because I work around strong magnetic fields it was out. But only due to that. So anyway, I am now enjoying the beautiful craftsmanship of the GS and one of the most accurate moments I know of while also enjoying a ceramic bezel and 200m water resistance. Which checks all the boxes for me.

well, nothing lasts here lol It is a problem lol But I still rate this watch an everyday wearer... it is not real blingy, and much of its class and beauty is kind of subtle...

Yes the crystal is cited in most reviews, I didn't make mention of it, but it certainly adds to the appeal of this watch and its appearance, legibility, workmanship, etc, et al... Last edited by Tbonewalk; 4 October 2021 at 04:29 AM.. Reason: error |

I have seen this watch in person. OP, your photos are beautiful, but I am afraid to say, don't do justice to the watch, it's absolutely stunning. Many, many congratulations on you wonderful watch and top notch photography.

Thank you Dave! I put very little effort into photographing the King Seiko, just my cell phone and kind of quick. But I sense it may be a little hard to photograph this kind of dial. I took a quick one the other day and it looks nice at the 12 o'clock index. I am enjoing it!
