Hello SIDMAN, I am from the future. I have seen that you will get the rhodium variant.

Forever I preferred the blue, but as my tastes have changes the rhodium is just gorgeous.

I have owned the platinum, blue, and finally settled on the rhodium. They are all beautiful but the rodium is very distinct and very easy to dress up or down.

Poll : YachtMaster Blue or Rhodium? As advised in continuation of my earlier post...

It is cool that Rolex has created a model where it is truly difficult to decide which one to get, because they did such an excellent job with each of them. I think, for me, I’ve got to select the blue as it looks a bit more eye catching, but I could be wrong. Sometimes I do not like red and blue together on a dial, but on this one I think it works very very well. Sometimes it looks a little “Captain America” to me, like it did on the new blue dial Seamaster Diver 300. On this Rolex, it just works!

It's interesting to see the conversatoin about the two and not the original Platinum version. Back when I first got interested in Rolex watches the Platinum was one of the watches to which I was most attracted. I ended up buying an homage watch with much of the look but at a much lower cost (Invicta). I found it difficult to read in subdued light. I must admit that it no longer holds the alure that it first did ten years ago. I was really interested in the PM models on OF bracelets as well. Finally I ended up with the Rhodium (now Steel, no Rhodium on the Rolex website anymore. Has there been a dial change? I like the darker grey). I find no issue with the dial's legibility on the Rhodium and just love the watch. It's great that it takes so well to aftermarket straps and love it on Rubber!!! The blue on dark grey is so subtlely striking as well!!! In truth there is no loser in the three SS/Pt models. They're all great, beautiful watches!!!

Hmmm...it seems the Rhodium dial is no longer available. It has been replaced with "slate" on the Rolex website. I wonder what this dial will look like in comparison to the Rhodium?

This was spotted in another thread too. Do we know if the dial has actually been changed or if it is just a name alteration? If the older rhodium dials are different because they contained more actual rhodium then perhaps they will go up in value if in effect they are now discontinued?

The way the site writes:

SLATE DIAL
Exceptional legibility

Would lead me to assume (though, we all know assumptions can be foolish), that they have gone for a more muted dial, with less of a sunburst effect. It would also be cheaper for Rolex, because Rhodium ain't cheap. Rhodium dial YM 40's about to shoot up on Chrono

Wow, well if the new YM slate is a more muted dial then I am even happier with my rhodium. My hang tag and receipt both state rhodium not slate.

Oops, Slate (you know what I meant)!!!

FWIW, I was at the AD a few weeks ago and they were still referring to it as the Rhodium dial; on the web site I don't see a lighter looking dial either. My Slate dial Daytona is quite a bit lighter in shading. Even if there really isn't a physical difference the warranty card will no longer be labeled as Rhodium dial!!! That could make a bizarre collectibility difference!!!

Who knows what the slate will look like, but I do know that the dial on your YM is stunning. Rolex will be hard pressed to better it with a slate dial.

I wonder how many rhodium dial YMs (37mm and 40mm) they produced a year?Because, seeing as rhodium is so expensive, I wonder if this is a financial decision for Rolex? Last time I checked, it was trading at $15-$16k per ounce, and had more than doubled this year alone. I get that a dial does not use a lot of raw material, but it is a phenomenally pricey metal.

Are there any other models in the Rolex line-up that have a Rhodium dial? Maybe they have been replaced too...

The Datejust 36 rhodium is now also called slate...

Ha ha thanks

I think the rapid rise in precious metal prices could well be the reason.

Yep...makes sense. I haven't got a clue what a dial weighs, but just a single gram of Rhodium is ~$500, so if Rolex produced 5000 rhodium dials per year, that is one hell of a cost for them.
