2 minute search. All with 10,xxx ASKING PRICES. I am confident you could get them for less.
I have seen others at 10,200 asking and one sold a few weeks ago at 9,900 asking. They can be had for $10 not $12. Now we know they were at Tourrneau those retails don't surprise me. https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...hlight=Daytona https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...hlight=Daytona https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...hlight=Daytona |

I would prob go white even though I have a black one. I don't think the price is crazy if its mint. It seems like prices for the 116520 have risen in the last few months. Before the LN came out I think a good used one was in the 9-10k range but the supply seems to have dried up for now. The new range for a good one with no dings and complete is in the 11-12k range. If its not complete then I think you can get one for less but those also seem to ve very well worn. Good luck both dials are great. By the way...if OP is going to go for one of each I would go black 116520 and white 116500...just my .02.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to comment on price.
I chose black because I found that there's not enough contrast between the white dial and silver sub-dials in bright sunlight. That was in 2014 and if i could turn the clock back, I'd buy the black again.

White for me in a 116520 in general.
Neither of the watches in the OP would be worth $12k to me, glad to see that deal is dead. |

White can't be beat, but those prices probably could be! A newer 116520 is probably 12K. 2002 is ooold, and probably closer to 10K, I'd imagine. |

116520s a dime o dozen. all kinds.
they sell for 12K cdn tops...9500-10500 us is more acceptable these are sellers trying to take advantage of the ceramic hype and sell to those who cant find a ceramic at msrp. remember folks....the 116520 was NOT hard to get for a few years leading up to the ceramic release once the ceramic hype dies down post basel with the new releases you will see more and more purchase ceramic at msrp to pay ceramic msrp prices for pre-worn older model daytonas is just stupid |

White dial is really great. Definitely the better of the two, to me.

I would go white.....I have been looking a lot lately and 12k seems high but prices have crept up to the 11k range as of late for many and white seem to be more rare. I really want an old one but I think the prudent thing would be to wait for the market to settle down. There are 15 years worth of them out there and orders for the ceramic seem to be filling in rather quickly. Once the ceramic can be had for MSRP and used Ceramics become available they should be a bit less and the old one used should come in below that. Just look at the BLNR and the fact Rolex doesn't have to wait for Zenith for movements anymore. Just my thoughts! I hope I am right.

Black is much cooler looking IMO. Does dressy and sporty better. But really hard to read, for me at least. If you can read it clearly then Black. White is still a very cool watch... don't get me wrong.
$12K is too much for the 2002 Daytona though. How do you price the two the same with so many years between them? Unless the 2002 is a Zenith but don't remember if that's the right vintage for that movement. |

Here's an update. I passed on both. When I passed they offered me a white dial SS zenith model from 1998 for $12k but it had been polished. Passed as well and ended up purchasing a BLNR today at a local AD

For the pre ceramic models I prefer the black because it contrasts nicely with the stainless bezel. For the same reason I prefer the white dial on the ceramic because it contrasts the black ceramic bezel nicely

I'm not the only one who find the black SS daytona a bit hard to read. But I wouldn't go for white unless it's the ceramic.
Personally I find white ceramic > white non ceramic. and Black non ceramic > black ceramic. Who looks at their watch to tell time anyways. |

You can't go wrong with all four. There are just nuanced differences. The 116520 with the steel bezel is dressier than the ceramic bezel version. The white dial 116520 wears larger because the white dial blends in with the steel bezel, as steel is a "white" metal. The black dial 116520 wears smaller because of the contrast with the black dial against the steel "white" metal bezel. The ceramic bezeled are both sportier than the steel bezeled, with the white dial offering more contrast between the white dial and the black bezel and black subdial rings so therefore it is the sportiest and "loudest." The black dial ceramic bezeled would wear larger than the white dial ceramic bezeled because the black dial blends in with the black bezel.

For me the best are the white 116520 and the black 116500.

Everyone who said that was too much would love to get a 116520 for $12K today, LMFAO. My first Daytona I purchased, in 2006, I did pay a premium for it. Do not regret it today.
