Depends on what leadership level. Entry level Amazon asks some great scenario based ones.
Your Mid+ more focused on how your skill set with fit into that position. They already know you can lead a team. |

Interview questions seem to be awkward, IMO. Maybe ask them specific, open ended questions ahead of time to allow for deeper reflection, but ask more direct questions in person.
What were the last three books you've read? What are the top three books you would recommend everyone to read? What is your philosophy of life? And as MrGoat stated: Who is the greatest leader in history? Why? And as kearez stated: It depends on the position which questions will be most relevant. |

Who are you? (not what’s in the resume, but as a person with values, beliefs….). And then let the person talk for as long as possible and just listen.

Honestly, for leadership, I tend to first look at their personality and even maybe personality test. A leader needs to be someone who can always see the “BIG” picture. You’ll see personality test downplayed by many out there….but honestly I’m not sure that’s not just because they tell 90% of the population they are meant to be the boss Don’t wanna hurt feelings do we?
I once reported to a VP who couldn’t actually make any decisions or really achieve anything. He was far too detail oriented and always spent his time down in the weeds. Never saw much success out of that guy. Sent using Tapatalk |

What better leaders are there than those on TRF?
Great leaders are able to canvas those around them and pick and choose what works best for them and the team. Using TRF for that reason is no different.

Does not really matter. People make up their minds in the first 30 seconds, and then just spend the rest of the time looking to justify the decision. The questions cannot really compensate for our inherent biases in the interview process.

Not true. I work at a professional Staffing Agency and we most certainly do not make up our minds in 30 seconds. We conduct a thorough interview and base our decision on multiple factors.

This is my area my friend and there is data to show that this is the case (see shahani, et al, 2010; pingitore et al 1994; purkiss 2006; I can cite dozens and dozens more). If you have some research and data to support your claim I would like to see that? People try to mitigate this but bias is always a factor, it’s simply not a debate. The only thing we can do it try to limit it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

This is a bit vague. Is this more for the role of a personnel supervisor, a task lead, a project manager, a project director, etc? Do you need a big picture person or someone who is extremely anal about fine details who reports to the big picture person?
That said, asking about communication styles and methods of communicating feedback to subordinates is critical for almost any type of leadership, IMHO, because it is where so many leaders fall flat, and this can be either a driver of retention or a cause of employee turnover. |

One factor I always think of is team balance. What does the team need? I have a team of sales and product experts. If I have 2 superstar sales ppl leasing sales teams already it may be that I need more of a steady pair of hands to keep the existing book turning over whilst the superstars go get new clients. Would I pass over a 3rd superstar if I come across one in an interview maybe not! But be clear on what you’re looking for is my advice!
