New Pelagos Owner
Hello everyone!
Long post warning, but I wanted to document this mainly for my records and hopefully spark some conversation along the way. TLDR: Buying his/hers Tudors for our wedding gifts and I just received my Pelagos. I am getting married later this year and was wanting to get myself a watch to commemorate the big event. After speaking with my fiancée about wedding gifts in general, we decided that we’d do his and hers watches. She’s not a watch enthusiast, but she agrees that it’s nice to have at least one nice watch in your collection and she thinks that since I appreciate watches it would be a nice gift to have “a little piece of me” on her wrist. As I do with all big purchases, I went into full on obsession mode and spent most of my time on forums, watching YouTube vids and going to the AD to chat. Here are some of my thoughts: Rolex: I initially looked at Rolex, obviously, but given I had been out of the market for a few years, I hadn’t realized that even the “entry level” OP was virtually unobtainable. I wasn’t going to pay secondary so I moved on and will revisit the idea on my 30th or some other milestone. Tudor: Then I turned to Tudor. A few years back I never even looked at Tudor as I was ignorant and thought they were a poor man’s Rolex; however, after looking researching the brand and learning more about how they’ve currently positioned themselves and are pushing the technical envelope in ways their “big brother” won’t, I was intrigued. I shortlisted the Pelagos, GMT, BB58 blue and the BB41. The BB58 turned out to feel a little to small on my wrist (probably wasn’t really, but I’m used to my 42mm Speedmaster). The BB41’s lack of in-house movement was a little bit of a deal breaker for me, but I did like the design and the price was nice… The GMT and Pelagos were the two I narrowed my choice to. Omega: Alongside the Tudor GMT and Pelagos, I looked at the Omega Aqua Terra 41mm in white. I absolutely love this watch and the co-axial escapement and METAS certifications are big plusses. I almost pulled the trigger on this one, but since my fiancée didn’t like the ladies version of the Aqua Terra, we crossed this one off. I’ll be back for that watch though… Grand Seiko: I am a huge fan of the GS Snowflake and the Spring Drive in general, but in the end I passed on this. I’ll also be back for a GS eventually. Cartier: Maybe I’m ignorant, but I think these are more of a fashion watch than anything else. Couldn’t find one that I liked and neither could my fiancée, oddly enough. Maybe I’ll warm up to the Tank or the Santos eventually. At the end of the day it came down to the Tudor GMT and Pelagos. My fiancée made my decision a little easier by saying that since the gift was technically coming from her, she'd choose and she picked the Pelagos. It reminds her of summer fun and she can imagine it on my wrist in Hawaii for our honeymoon. The GMT didn’t speak to her, but I’ll be back for that one too… She’ll be getting the Tudor Glamour Date 31mm in two tone, with the white dial and diamond hour markers (M53003-0066). We chose this because she really wanted a two tone, jubilee style bracelet and this really is the only one outside of the DJ that looked good to her. They had to order that straight from the Switzerland, but should be here soon. Thanks for reading my novel! |

File size limitations are a b****. This got rotated in compression, but you get the idea. |

Congrats on the Blue Pelagos! Did the same just prior to the lockdown and sure glad I did. Tudor nails this blue and it's a watch with some amazing tech as well.
Enjoy that beauty! dP

Fellow Longhorn here!!!
Congrats on the pending nuptials and excellent choice on the watch! Tudor and Grand Seiko are the exact brands I would consider today, even if Rolexes were widely available.

Thank you! I'm a big fan of what GS is putting out and will definitely get one in the future, just didn't feel right for his/hers. I've even considered their quartz watches GASP |

Really nice. Congrats! I really would like to add a Pelagos one day. For some reason most Tudor’s bug me with the round indices and snowflake hands. However I really like it in the Pelagos with the square indices it works much better in my opinion and the cool blue color of it all is great. I really like them

Oh well, it's on my wrist now and thrilled about that. I agree, there are so many elements working perfectly together on the Pelagos. My wife said the thing that makes the blue really stand out is the all matte finish. Congrats again! dP

The blue Pelagos is the ONLY watch ever I somewhat regret selling. Somehow it didn't stick around; not sure why. But as I do see them frequently on display I'm tempted to just walk in and grab one. It has taken a lot of discipline so far, not sure for how much longer though...
Congratulations, this is a serious diver and a worthy keeper |

The matte finish is nuts. One of my favorite things about it! In low light, it looks almost black, so the blue isn't always "in your face" unless your in the sun - in which case it's bright as hell! |

I'm going to work on my Sea/Air/Land/Space collection so this will round out the Sea portion. Got the Space covered with the Speedie and Land covered with an OP Date (for now)... I think to round it out will be a navitimer and an explorer, but those will come later! |

Congrats! My experience went a different direction - I went to try on a Pelagos (because I love them) but found it a little bigger than my preference, so I ended up buying the BB58. But the Pelagos is an awesome watch, I'm hoping that one day they do a 39mm version, I will be in line for that.

A 39mm Pelagos would be sick. Even if they had to drop the WR to 300M - they would then compete with the Seamaster and Planet Ocean... |

You chose a fascinating watch and I'm positive you'll love it as do I.
