Agreed. I'm always of the opinion that no-one will be as careful with your watch as you will.

Invest a couple of good quality tools - a decent spring bar removal tool and the correct size hollow-ground screwdriver is the bare minimum IMO - and with a bit of careful taping up, it's an absolute doddle. And apart from actually being quite satisfying, it means you avoid letting completely cack-handed imbeciles loose on your watch.

I would be furious - they should pay for any repairs / service. That sort of damage is unacceptable.

Exactly

When my A D calls and I'm picking up a new piece I bring my own tools. Most of the time its just a screw driver but it has been a screw driver and spring bar pliers

He lets me size my own watch.

Looks like whoever did your adjustment used a hammer and pick ax. I'd be pissed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The big lesson here is that this is why one should always request that the AD's watchmaker do the sizing.

Personally, I'd just be glad that this wasn't a lug; a clasp can be replaced far more easily.

Agree entirely. If, for example, there were a grain of sand on the AD's glove/pad, and it put a hairline scratch on a new clasp, or the polished side of a case, I'd chalk that up to "$#!+ happens" and move on. Relatively unavoidable accident and not indicative of sloppy work.
Your point made me nervous, I sure wouldn't want somebody with that grain of sand anywhere near my cars or my watches!!

So I take it you'll be bringing your own, and ask the sales rep to change before retrieving your watch ?

I always think of this when thinking about the training (or lack of) at AD’s when they let sales clerks size Rolex watches.

Some people just cannot work with small precision parts, eyesight, unsteady hand, who knows. I would demand a new clasp on a new watch.

That’s been butchered by some clueless imbecile. Sorry that your first experience with the brand is marred by a substandard AD. I would report them to Rolex while returning the watch.

Generally I fall into the camp of forget it, wear it and enjoy it. BUT that actually seems like some solid damage when I zoom in. I’d want a new clasp….

Problem is that I think Rolex charges ~$3,000 usd for a PM clasp

I bought this watch from WatchGuyNYC. It's a pretty reputable dealer in New York. I have sent the watch to RSC now and see what they can do. I sent the manager of Watchguynyc a couple messages but didn't get the response. Tried to call them but it went right to voice mail. So frustrated, but a good lesson learned!

Strange. My AD has bracelet sizing done by their repair department, who have Rolex-certified watchmakers on-site.

Yes, a grey dealer called watchguynyc. I thought he was professional so I trusted him to do the adjustment. What a disaster.

That sucks! Sorry you have to go through this.

Another reason to go the AD route, if possible.

Also, since you bought from a grey dealer this watch probably changed hands multiple times. How do you know it was new? Or was it just new to you? Possible that that was already pre existing

Well I’ll add this, changing an OF strap isn’t so easy. The OF strap doesn’t have much if any give when trying to get the spring bar. Can be difficult to get your tool in there which is why we so many damaged lugs but the spring bar in clasp is pretty straight forward

OP good luck.

Well the watch was purchased may 2022 and they told me it was unworn. I also saw him do the adjustment right where the damage is. So I assume it was caused by him.

I would go to the AD and get a quote for a new clasp. Send it to the grey dealer and let them pay for it. If the don’t, return it and get out of there. This guy has no idea what he’s doing. The screw damage, not great. Not a huge deal though, it can be fixed for very little money and will be back to perfect. The clasp, is absolutely mangled. He used the inside as a pry bar.

a new clasp replacement is the only way to fix it, but I don't think the grey dealer would do this . a PM clasp cost a lot and they are going to lose all the profit of this transaction doing the replacement. their reputation will be damaged of course, but if they care about their reputation they wouldn't have hired someone so reckless to do the job in the first place. lesson learned OP, next time buy your watch only from an AD.

How would you get the right sized oysterflex bracelets? Do they come with no straps on and they just give them to you based on your wrist size?

AD has measurement tool to decide which oysterflex size fits you.

That'll teach you not to let someone else tool your watch for something so simple that you could do carefully by your self. You could send the dealer a link to this thread, you can also leave him an accurate review of your experience on Google reviews, that may give him the nudge he needs to respond to you. Best of luck, that's quite a deep mark.

don't worry about it, you don't need to buy the tools to do it yourself. it's just a simple job, every AD can do it flawlessly.

Unfortunately this is not correct, many examples on the forum of butchered screw pins and scratched up bracelets by AD’s.

It isn't now. What a cowboy. To do that and hand it back to you without comment!

My AD insists on sizing the bracelet unless the watch is a gift for someone who isn't present at the sale. They have never scratched or gouged one, but whenever possible I do it myself. Good tools don't cost a fortune relative to the cost of the watch and as said earlier, nobody will be more careful with your watch than you.
