Good bye old friend, but Hello as well

Well our dog Annie, my best buddy passed away last month at 11 years old, on our kid's Spring break of all things... She was a Giant Schnoodle, and as the saying goes, "Everyone says their dog is the best, and everyone is right." She was a brilliant, amazing, caring dog that never once showed any signs of aggression. I loved her way more than I thought was possible and I miss our walks and time together greatly...

The kids and my wife have been asking me to agree to a new puppy for a about a month now, and I have been pushing them off using reasons like financial costs, time, energy, and effort needed to raise a puppy to be a great dog.

My daughters don't know it yet, but I just agreed with my wife that we should get a new dog... Will probably be around September, and even though I've been a grump about this whole thing.. I'm actually getting pretty excited...

Sorry for your loss.

So hard.

But great to hear a new one is on the way.

Sorry for your loss. Losing a pup is an awful thing to go through. We have a 14 year old dachshund and while she is doing well, she is certainly slowing down quite a bit. Have a 4 and 2 year old who adore her, dreading the day.

Thanks very much for the kind words. It really was much harder than I thought it would be to say goodbye, but I'm happy and looking forward to be opening up the house to another new member of the family.

Thanks, you and I sound like similar situations. My girls are 6 and 8 and they too adored our pup. They got their chance to say goodbye, which I think was a really good thing for them. They were definitely sad, but kids bounce back pretty strong.

During a really tender moment, my younger one looks at me through tears and says, "So now we'll only have a cat, that BITES!" It was so funny when it came out, that it lightened the somber time tenfold. Kids just have a way of doing that it seems.

PS, the cat is almost 15 and not the friendliest of creatures

Hahaha. Thats awesome!

We had a cat growing up and it was the meanest thing you ever met. My Dad would be petting her on the couch, she would be purring, then all of a sudden..... "cono!" a loud cat scream and a thud as she was landing from mid air as he flung her off of him. I will never own a cat again due to that animal, ruined cats for me forever!

Anyhow, enjoy the new pup when he/she arrives and be sure to post an incoming!

So sorry for your loss. My condolences.

One of our "kids" is 14. She is a great pet and member of our family. We are preparing ourselves for when the time comes. Not having kids, we get pretty attached to our pets.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is one of life’s dark days.
Take solace in all of those great times that you shared. You gave Annie a wonderful life and she paid your family back with unconditional love.

Sucks losing a pup. Have gone thru it 5 times total and the last one this time last year. They hold such a special place in our hearts and it is hard to let go. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of something that big old lug (St. Bernard) did or destroyed and just laugh about it now.

We were down to one for a little while, our standard poodle. But just added a new member to the family. An AussieDoodle that is about a year and a half old. Taking some adjusting but is a good time.

Great looking dog you had there.

Our current duo is made up of Rosie the Standard Poodle who is currently rocking the mowhawk.

And Lucy the AussieDoodle who is still afraid of me. But loves the wife and daughter.

Thank you all so much for the kind words. I shared the news last night with my girls, and they totally flipped. I know this is a really big deal for them (and all of us) and they are super excited!

As for the new puppy, we are actually looking at getting an AussieDoodle! Which is the same dog as Brandon, a couple of posts up!! Funny how things work sometimes..

Very sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to lose a dog. I'm still not ready a year after my dog Nala passed away. IDK if I'll ever get another 1. Until we do my wife and I are doing a lot of donating to various rescues in our area. Good luck with your new pup, may you all have a long happy life together.
