Be wary - PMs from peps

In the spirit of communication, I’ve advised a mod that a new member is sending PM’s with a FS link outside of TRF.

Be wary of any FS PMs of course - especially from one who just joined an hour before messaging you.

Not libeling ‘peps’ but a copy of the PM is below to warn our community.

And no, I didn’t click the link - it is not live in my image above for that reason.

We now return you to your regular TRF browsing.

Half a dozen folks reported PMs from the same account in quick succession

Thanks Adam
Curious - IIRC, TRF limits new members from posting FS, photo’s and links until a certain number of posts.

Maybe it should also apply to PM’s?

I realize an honest newbie might need to PM a Mod so a link to do only that could be included in the welcome and verification email they get from the system upon registering.

Did you sign into the link? If so then more likely than not your account has been compromised. If you didn’t you should be okay but I’d still change my password if I were you.

That’s a good point Tim.

These shortened links in PM’s usually drop the user onto a mirrored site meant to look like TRF.

This same phishing ploy is used on FB, IG, Twitter to hijack user’s credentials when they see a fake login screen.

Now, if you use TapaTalk - and you have notifications turned on - and if you click the notification - and if it asked you to login to TapaTalk - then your TapaTalk acct. is compromised as well as every forum you chose to aggregate within TapaTalk. That’s because the scammer can now hijack your TapaTalk and pose as you on all those forums.

Is it safe to assume that peps membership to TFR has expired?

Yes if that was a legit link. Of course I can’t tell from that pic.

Do as Tim suggested to be on the safe side.

Here’s why I can’t tell - I could insert a link like www.badguy (an example only) and mask it in an email by letting the text display a legit website.
