I had a hard time finding a black face 16570 in Houston in good condition, white faces are all over the place.   Been checking for a year now at my normal spots, almost buying a black gmt2, but holding back cause it wasn't the cleanest example and overpriced.

Glad I did... this like new with box, black face w/ 3186 andRolex rehaut is perfect.   Love the red gmt hand, and my favorite... the tiny amount of polish on the edge of the bezel when it catches light.

The perfect fit, proper Rolex tool watch (in my opinion) that can go any where without feeling pretentious and oh so comfortable wt/ht.  This is a enthusiast's watch

Congrats on the watch. The patience clearly paid off. The black dials look much better than the white dials to my eye. Elegant, classy, handsome and purposeful all in one.

Was able to grab one on vacation in Miami. Love it. Perfect size and look IMO compared to the newer, though both great

Is it possible that this observation is explained by the attraction of the Explorer II as a second, or third, Rolex watch rather than the first? The hypothesis is... Once an entrant to the Rolex realm is attracted to the icons like the Sub and the GMT, expanding the collection would then find the Explorer II as a natural option. However, with second options, multi-watch owners may exhibit several series of bying and selling, different price senstivity levels, different income senstitivy levels..all leading to softer markets. Rolex Explorer II (lovely as it is) seems to serve a sub-market in Rolex, and this market is "those who have more than one Rolex watch".

Albeit to a lesser degree, the same could be saind about 14060 (although the date vs. no date argument comes strongly here as a fator). Any how, just a thought.
Just going back and reading, there seems to be a lot of truth in this thinking. I just don't see someone celebrating a milestone...new to a Rolex, walking into an AD with all the shiny, blingy, and awesome sports models, and settling on the explorer ii. (Not like you can even find sports currently to view)

Its my opinion it is gorgeous in its own way, but hard to see it in that environment. Those familiar with the brand and looking for the most utilitarian, and arguably the most comfortable daily wear, with the convenience of dual time, see the diamond in the ruff it is.

It's a smart buy, and it's hidden potential overt time is spine tingling. I feel the same way about my Tudor northflag by the way.

I am not going to go back and count pictures but it seems there are more five digit owners than six on this thread.

I also have noticed that the bezel does amazing things in fluorescent lighting. It really catches my eye when Im working with my hands in those environments.

Or indeed after a DJ, Bluesy, TT GMT, TT Daytona, Submariner etc.

I can imagine this being used in a commercial...’The Rolex Explorer 2, it doesn’t have to be your first Rolex’

i love my six-digit ex2. a lot.

if you’re a skier or snowboarder, it fits perfectly under a glove. and doesn’t look like everyone else’s submariner at the resort (no hate, i love my sub too.)

My one complaint is the weakness in the bracelet at the connection between the clasp and the 6’oclock side. That’s the one spot that feels weak on an other wise solid band.
