Calling random ADs asking to be put on a SS Daytona list???

I searched for 10 minutes and couldn't find a similar thread, I can't imagine there hasn't been one... but here goes:

Has anyone ever just called around to random ADs asking to be put on a list for an SS Dayonta???

And if so what kind of success have you had?

My local AD flat out sucks, it has a very small selection and the main sales guy there has turned me off big time. I planned to buy my wife a DJ and then ask to be put on a list for the Daytona but I just can't do business there. He also told me that he hasn't had an SS Daytona in over a year and his list is "a mile long". The next closest AD is at least 200 miles away and I just haven't found time to get over there. In the meantime I bought the DJ from David Loebl "The Watchseller", and now it seems really pointless to walk into an AD and demand the most sought after watch in the world without ever doing business there...

Thanks for your time... hopefully someone has taken this route and can give some advice.

-Dan

200 miles is paltry for a watch that will cost you nearly 10 grand!

Nothing wrong with giving it a try and you may even have some luck but Rolex does not allow thier dealers to sell out of thier sales area (trans shipping) so alot of the AD's that are out of town won't ship to you unless you have already established a relationship with them. I'm not saying that all AD's follow the policy but my experience has been that many won't for fear that they will loose thier authorized dealer status.

200 miles just to walk in the front door and ask to be put on a waiting list???

That is why I am asking if calling works just the same for some folks...

Thanks to all that responded, I am going to get organized over the weekend and make the calls on Monday. Hopefully one will have my name on it, sooner than later.

I don't know why I haven't thought of that. The ADs here told me that they don't keep waiting lists and that the SS Daytona recipients are strictly decided on by their main office. That's why I thought I would have to just get lucky finding one by chance when I travel out of state. That's almost like winning the lottery. NO LUCK in 8 years.

99% of the time an AD will say they do not have one, even if they are starring right at it! Most hold these watches off the showroom floor and wait for their prize customer to walk in to get their jewelry cleaned then bring it out for them. Or they call the people up who have spent cash on the watch. Calling does not work in the US and my AD can attest to it. He said he gets at least 10 calls a day for Daytonas and GVs and they will almost NEVER even entertain a call from out of the area. Go build your relationship and it will come sooner. JMHO.

If you want one so bad why not get a used one or go through a gray market dealer? You could bypass the waiting list and get what you want much sooner. www.swissluxury.com www.alanfurman.com www.steindiamonds.com etc.

There are several places you can look for used ones as well.
