Thoughts on Gold Subs

If you could have any of the 3 gold subjs...
The gold / blue, gold / black or the white gold blue ... what would you pick?

Personally the YG blue dial but only because I have other “white metal” watches and no coloured dials.

For an only watch or as a daily the WG.

Definitely the classic 18K YG with the blue dial and bezel. I've always loved that watch ever since I first saw one in the 80's!

I had the chance of choosing between those 3 and I went with the YG black. For me, it is more classy, serious, more mature let's say. Blue is superb but for me black it's perfect!

I went with the WG Sub. Subdued and yet gold.

Smurf (the WG blue Sub) because it is subtle and understated.

I'd pick the lovely WG blue dial "Smurf". I find that shade of blue just hypnotic, plus I prefer WG in general. Good luck in your decision. Cheers!

100% yellow gold blue. best looking combo imho. i may pick up a 5 digit one as they are a bargain now, and the 5 digit case styling is beautiful in that config

Are they? I haven't checked in a while, but I seem to recall previously about $4-$5k difference n price. Has that gap widened? While I definitely prefer the case shape with the 5 digit, I would have to see a bigger price gap to justify losing the sunburst dial of the 6 digit. It's one of Rolex' best dials, imo.

I didn't think it was a sunburst, at least not most of the 5 digits. But maybe they switched to a sunburst late in the model run. I truthfully haven't paid too much attention to that reference since it's not in my budget at the moment.

SS. Subs in gold don’t compute for a dive watch.

The Smurf is nice and would be a great daily wearer but if I were truly going to pull the trigger on a gold Sub it would have to be the YG Blue dial/bezel.

Why does that matter? I bet far less than 1% of all Sub owners have ever used it as a dive watch anyway. No on uses a Sub to dive anymore anyway.

Your logic is flawed. Hypothetically the same could be said for all the other sports models that are available in solid gold.
