Will RSC in London authenticate in writing?

I'm based in London and I'm preparing to buy a vintage Rolex piece from abroad. The mechanism through which I intend to pay offers robust protection if the item turns out not to be genuine.

On delivery, if I take the watch to a Rolex Service Centre in London, they will no doubt know instantly if the watch is genuine or not once the case back is off. Will they be prepared to provide a document confirming their findings if it turns out the item is not above board?

They will give you a receipt when taking the watch in, stating the model ref and number. If in any doubt, they’ll know immediately if something’s wrong, for example if serial number doesn’t match model etc. If it has been reported stolen, it will not be returned. Once opened and inspected, they’ll email a service plan that you either accept or decline and ask to return.

The exterior on this item looks good, but without seeing either the back of the dial or the caseback off, I'm just not sure. If it were to be a counterfeit, would it be safe to assume they'll decline to service it and give me documentation indicating this was their conclusion?

Naturally, if any component comes back with a stolen serial, I would fully expect them to retain it.

If counterfeit it would be returned to you immediately

You would need to ask for, and pay for, a Service Estimate.

They don’t charge for an estimate in London. Not sure about the US
