Well, yes technically correct, but at least in Europe it's confirmed there will be an increase on 1.1.21

Almost 13% price increase this year and a new increase is coming in January 2021
AP is chasing their profits to the max

Oph, just when I was starting to think maybe someday I might be okay with owning a Code because a 26k AP Code is better than a PP Calatrava head to head.

Yes, the increase was heard from me as well.
For my part it is 3% as information.
We will find out very soon !

In any case, it doesn't change much, it's always less than on the second-hand market...there is still a nice margin of increase.

What do you think is more palatable to customers; a single 20% price increase or several increases amounting to 20% spread out over 18 months?

The only real question for AP management is -how- to put the price increase through. I think the new approach is smart. No one's turning down a royal oak because it's 3% more expensive and the vast majority of potential customers aren't on these forums noticing the more frequent price hikes.

I assume the ADs know the price increase already.
A quick check on the website of reputable German AD shows that 15450 is at EUR 21,700.
While on the AP website, the price for Germany is EUR 20,100. That is 8% difference.
Could it be that some ADs are already reflecting the increased price?
We'll find out soon.

A single large increase, unless the products they sell are readily available.

It's quite frustrating to consumers to be waiting and waiting and waiting for a product they "ordered" only to see it experience 3+ price increases before that product is finally delivered to them.

No other industry is like this, since we typically have contracts that lock in pricing for products that "take long to produce or deliver."

Agreed, on this. But then again for most people that buy Ap, which essentially has it's cheapest product priced around more than $20k (which makes it ridiculously expensive for most people) price sensitivity is not really given.

Like someone else mentioned, most people that don't track prices like us don't even know about it.

However, doesn't mean that I think this is not absolutely nuts. But what do I know - my boutique doesn't even wish me a Merry X-mas nor do they seem to care about my questions given that I only bought one watch in 12 months.

Don't feel bad. With 3 watches in 12 months, I can't feel the love either.

hahaha count me in also. AP SA's have become very very arrogant in the past 6-12 months for sure. They act like the celebs instead of treating the clients. Sure I am just an average joe, maybe bought 6 APs in my life time from the boutique but thats nothing to the high flyers ofc

A couple of years ago I read somewhere that AP were planning to get into certified resale. I wonder how that will work in the current environment when resale prices have gone through the roof...

They may have abandoned the idea and come up with this idea to creep closer to market pricing. Speculating of course.

It’s definitely happening, I tried to order a 15500 blue dial or a 15202 to be supplied before the price rise and I was told they were unable to do this as apparently they’ve been inundated with requests to do the same.

But doesn’t that just mean folks are speculating the price rise rather than AP confirming anything?

No, a friend of mine wanted to buy an AP roc in early December. Due to his current marriage crisis he wanted to pay for the watch after the new year once his wife’s solicitors had released their grip on his ‘cacahuetes’. AP kindly offered to hold the watch until January but explained that it would cost more due to a price increase on 1st Jan. If it doesn’t happen then either the salesperson was misinformed or AP were looking for a record December.
