New Member from Boston
Hi all, just wanted to say hello. Hailing from Boston, sitting under 2 feet of snow, and thought I'd join the community.
I currently wear a Breitling Colt Auto which is my only "premium" watch and would like to start expanding my collection. I also don't like that it's getting kind of beat up due to being my daily wear and shows a lot because it's a polished case and bracelet. So I'd like to get a tougher daily wear watch and have this one cleaned up and worn less frequently and more carefully. My uncle long ago promised me his vintage black submariner when i graduated high school, then college, then grad school, and reneged on the offer every time... at this point I think I should just buy my own. So I've been looking for a good deal on a new 116610 or 116613. I'll check out the classifieds here. I'm also interested in learning more about watch care, winders for those with multiple watches, and such. |

Welcome! A Sub is a very well rounded piece for everyday wear. Keep in mind that the reference you mentioned (116610) is for a ceramic sub, as your uncle's watch is most likely a ref. 16610.

Welcome! Any Sub is a solid choice.
Keep in mind that the center links of a 116613 will show marks just like your Breitling on the polished surfaces so you might want to stick with all SS if that was something that bothered you. |

Welcome! You'll find most if not all of the information you're looking for here on the forums. And in the event you can't find it, feel free to ask! You can't go wrong with a Rolex, just be sure to post pictures when you get one or we tend to get upset.

Welcome! Sounds like you should buy your own Sub. It will be nicer anyway.
Do you know which one you like most?

Welcome! I too, have often promised my nephews a watch that they have seen me wear over the years. Although not a vintage piece, it was a Sub. My main concern when it came time to hand the watch over as promised was, if my nephew would appreciate the watch and not sell it. I don't think that all hope is lost for your uncle's watch, for the simple fact that you have joined this forum and you are seeking knowledge about watch care, so that should be proof to your uncle that you would make a good caretaker for his vintage Sub.

Welcome. Sub sounds like a great choice. At least with a new one you'll get all the latest advancements.

I would say buy your own it will end up meaning more in the end anyway. Nice thing is you will always be able to hand it down to your child if you end up having any.
subs is also an awesome daily watch I've been wearing mine for a bit over 2 years and the new ceramic models hold up very well. I have the usual dings and scratches any well worn watch gets, but the ceramic insert/crystal are still perfect. Either way you can't go wrong with either a ceramic or non ceramic model, both will stand the test of time. |

Welcome...the 11610 would be a great addition to your collection, although I will admit to being a little partial to the 11613...especially the sunburst dial.

Welcome fellow Bostonian. Yes, the blizzard was brutal. 30" where I live.
This is a great community with a wealth of knowledge. I would endorse a Sub purchase......hard to beat that watch for a daily wearer. Good luck and welcome to the TRF community! |
